Ka24e turbo
So, I'm new to the 240 scene, so far I like it, the people seem helpful on here. But a few days ago, I bought my first 240, s13 coupe ka24e, it was originally a two tone, but the dude before me painted over it):, the paint is about a month old, and nearly 0 rust.. But anyway, I'm looking to turbo it(something reliable also), and I just want to make sure I buy good solid parts, and what people recommend for ka24e's, my goal is about 300-400hp, and I just want to know if it's cheaper to just build my engine or just do a swap. I just wanna do it right. Thanks yo. Here are some pictures of it.

Buy an SR, it's already turbo. It's just not worth the hassles and expenses of putting together a RELIABLE turbo setup for that engine. It would be cheaper,
easier, and more reliable to go SR... BTW, the heat wrap on that intake pipe is SERIOUSLY CUTE... |

holy mother of heat wrap on that stock intake tube lol. racepar is right though. you will spend much more money on having a RELIABLE KA-t setup, especially sohc. get bolt ons for it if you want to for the time being or get an sr.

I have a ka24 in my 95 240 also... A lot of people hate the ka motos but I've been doing a lot of research also. The price to turbo a ka with a good kit would be around the same as a sr20 with prolly more hp thou... If you want to run full boost you'd have to change the engine internals to after market stuff to make sure you don't blow it up... But when I get money I will turbo my ka24

if you wanna do it right and save money in the long run just go a v8. A 1uz is the cheapest since you can use your ka transmission and 1uzfe can be found in a lexus ls400. if your pretty good with cars you can do the swap yourself for same cost as an sr or less and go turbo or supercharged later for 500hp

This is 2014 people. Ka-t isn't a mythical creature anymore. Tune the shit or it will blow up just like any other motor. Stock rebuild is fine for 300whp. Use ARP head studs. As long as you don't buy ghetto parts or slap the motor back together you're fine. Somebody please explain to me how a 15-20 year old sr20 is any different than a 15-20 year old ka... You people act like they are immune to blowing head gaskets or putting holes in blocks. Let's face it, anything that gets sent to america in a shipping container isn't cream of the crop.

I don't have too much experience with SOHC ka engines, however I had a dual cam ka 100% stock I ran with a precision 58/62 @ 18-25psi for over a year. 740cc's / rom tune. If the car is tuned properly and the engine is healthy I see no problems turbocharging it. I do know that SOHC engines have lower compression ratios than DOHC engines. As far as strength of the bottom end, they all have the same cast pistons and the rods are identical. I'd be interested to get one of the heads on a flow bench and see what it can do.

lol at flow benching a KA head in 2014
they are vastly different than sr20det engines. the OEM sr20det was intended for a turbocharger. The KA was not. /end |

KA can handle a turbo fine, IF it's tuned top notch. The first SOHC engines have a higher compression (9.1:1 I think? I can't remember for sure). The easier part for me would be that the SR is drop in and go.

I have payed $1250 so far which includes the engine and other goodies to attach the motor to a manual transmission. I'll have to put another $1000 into this 1uz build for wiring, custom headers, rebuild necessities for the engine, radiator, and driveshaft so basically $2250 for a 260tq 260hp engine setup which is daily able and in my case used for drifting. I was going to turbo my rebuilt KA24DE but I wanted something different. But like others said KA is great to turbo IF it's tuned correctly. The 1uz swap is actually pretty easy it is honestly my first swap ever. But just like everything else you need to research and read everything you can. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
