View Full Version : RB25 S1 to S2 Conversion!?
Alright so I have A S1 Motor. Im planning on making it a S2 because it came with S2 coils. Here is my set up so far and if anyone can shed some light on things that i need to change or if its even possible.
Wiring sprecialties pre made harness combo with s2 coil harness
s2 coils
s2 maf
s1 ecu
metal halfmoon CAS
freddy mani with adapter
stock s1 TB AND Q45 TB with sensor (which one would be best??)
From what I have been reading from multiple websites this set up would work. Just want to make sure im not missing anything.
Thanks.

Sounds good!!

You'll be fine the only difference wiring wise is the coil packs I think. And you have that covered. You have to run s2 ecu because the ecu contains the (igniter chip).

O_o umm thought the "Igniter" was built into the coil packs on S2?! :hide:

Uhhh it may be. For some reason I remember discussing this when I got a s2 motor. I thought that the ecu had something to do with it.
Basically this is my thought process: ( and by no means am I an expert, I just tinker in my garage so if I'm wrong please correct me)
S1 ecu sends spark signal to the chip. The chip determines which coil pack gets the signal for spark.
S2 the ecu determines which coil gets the signal. And sends it directly to that coil. And the igniter built in ups the voltage or something.
I might be way off and feel real dumb. But I thought the ecu had something to do with it.
Cause if that's the case you could run s1 ecu on s2 and vice versa. So I really do think there is a difference with the ecu's and I was pretty sure it's because the coil pack/ ignitor none sense. But again I have very little experience with this stuff. I'm just building my car haha. I don't own a shop or claim to be smart.

Any way yes I believe the igniter is in the coil pack I just think the ecu has something that determines which coil get the signal. But idk haha I'm really curious now as to what is right

S1 and S2 ECU's are interchangeable.. Harness and Coil packs are different less you get a wiring specialist harness. Cas is the same if you have the half moon/star.
Alot of people dont know this but.
They way Japan nissan see's it
Series 1=Igniter set up, Silver CAS
Series 1.5= Non igniter setup, Silver CAS
Series 2=Non igniter, Plastic CAS

There ya go then. I didn't know the Ecus were interchangeable. I don't understand why aem and pfc make different ecu's for s1 and 2 then

My power fc can be used on S1 or 2 :)

Well that's awesome because I'm actually about to start looking for engine management soon. Thanks lol sorry for thread jacking kinda

I dont know about AEm never used it but. I bought my power fc from a S1 guy, Its being used on my S2 setup :)
Ahh this gives me some re assurance with the swap. Thanks for the confirmation =)

I'm new to nissans and especially rbs. And I picked up a series 2 motor series 1 ecu. I was looking through ecu pinouts. Number 113 pin on series 2 ecu is for the variable timing control solenoid series 1 ecu doesn't have a listing in pin 113. Left me confused as to the variable valve timing working with series 1 ecu on series 2 motor. Any issues with this?
