Just wondering if we can get a vq34de swap faq going since they're becoming more and more common, and there isn't a whole lot of resources pertaining to this swap.

vq pump doesn't work. Its on the opposite side of the engine. Stock lines wont fit.

i have a 91 s13 hb that i use as a daily driver.
i was interested in the VQ swap but im not interested in making it all raced out like most of the others guys that do it.

I would like to see kind of a bare bones list of what I would need to complete this swap.

How can you make this even cheaper ?

Make your own mounts
Buy pipes to route the coolant instead of a radiator
You can use a non-adjustable fpr off of the VQ30 maxima.

i know someone that can get me a good deal on a Koyo Radiator so do I get the one thats meant for the s13 KA24?

As for the ECU..is there a minimum requirement or specific ECU I need to use? I'm assuming I can't just grab an old 350z ECU and go with that, right?

I don't mind paying the money to get this done right. Just want to try to pass CA smog with the VQ swap..without going overboard on the parts.

Wrong.

The lines from the pump to the rack fit just fine.

Lines from the pump to the res; that depends if you mount the 350z res on the pass side, then you can keep the 350z lines and be set perfect.
If you kept the 240 res that mounts to the driver side, you just need to run new lines. Which isn't a problem since its all low pressure lines. Just make sure to keep the ps cooler in the mess some how.

The KA radiator fits because it was built for that chassis. but the inlet and out let are both on the wrong side. If you want a stock looking radiator I think the B13 or B14 radiators have the correct inlet and out lets and are similar enough to fit. So if you use a KA radiator it will work fine, but you will need to route the hoses that may not look so pretty but it will work perfectly fine.

For the ECU the startup requirements look for the NATS/IPDM/BCM you can get that flashed out of the ecu while retaining emissions controls and smog-ability. But if you really want to make a smog legal s13 you need to read up on this build

he shows how he modified the s13 gas tank to be like the z33 one and used all the emissions equipment from it.


Infiniti G20 radiator will probably work better since the inlet and outlet size, and core thickness is larger than the sentra. Probably closer to the correct size for the vq anyways.

Anyone else have any good websites, build threads, etc? Trying to take in as much information as possible while pursuing this swap over this year and possibly 2016 as well lol. But i have the vq35de, 6speed bot rebuilt and such.. have wiring harness un-converted, ecu, fbw pedal, etc..

I made a build thread, well, attempted to... A mod shut it down for lack of substance. But just finished mine last night, after fixing a ground on a coil and switching a few coils out. There is software out there that can disable the NATS start up requirements.

Anybody out here still that can help me out. Can't get my throttle body to function properly. Accelarator pedal has been tested good multiple times. Relay will not power on , have tried wiring it via this and the 350 schematic with no luck.

On a side note it was functioning wired with no relay. I am trying to wire it properly with a relay.

I have pin 104 and pin 3 for the throttle relay wired in. What would I do with pins 4 and 5 then? Do they supply the relay power or do I just send constant 12v to them.
It's just getting frustrating reading so much info that I tend to mix up.
