Hi fellas,

Been on this forum for a while now, but only really a reader rather than a poster. Anyway since there not that many S15 builds on this forum so I thought I might contribute. To make it easier I just copy and paste from my original member ride from NS.

Presently the car sitting there waiting for it new SR23VET engine from Mazworx, which should be arriving in late March I guess.

well mine was only a 2.2l,so he has the cost of a crank and some machining for clearance of said crank..my longblock with headswap pkg was around 13-14k..lol...lmao...cant believe i spent that much

It for venting air out of the front wheel archs. It look abit odd becoz it actually metal guards that been modified.

The rear fenders were untapped at the rear to again allow air from the rear arches to escape.

New setup how much power are you planning to make?

For track will probably be between 250-300rwkw until I learn to drive it properly. But once the engine run in, I will see what I can get out of this motor with the current turbo combo.

Yeah I'm just using it for running in the engine, if it last for longer than that then it a bonus. Will be looking at either PPG gearset or Hollinger in the long run.

It better be!! I know I could have taken the usual root ie 2JZ RB25/26/30, or even the LS series but then where the fun in that. Plus in theory this engine should get me what I'm looking for.

Originally was going to run a Hypertune intake manifold, but after it in R&D for too long so ended up getting Mazworx RHD intake manifold + fuel rail and a set of ID2000 injectors.

With sideskirts...this was originally meant to be V8 supercar replica, but the guys fook them up. So I got them chuck in to the bin.

Boyu2... I'm currently weighting between either Alcon 6 or Endless 6 for the front and GTR for the rear (either running a full subrame transplant or just running hydraulic handbrake). With the previous power and setup I found the standard s15 brakes with endless pads is adequate for what the car was used for. Suspension wise as per 1st post it running whiteline adjustable swaybars, front tension, nismo powerbrace etc etc. Which again are adequate for what the car was used for. The new setup will be the same bar some inclusion of front ikeya formula lower control arm/tension rod and rear toe arms, and then I take it from there.

Any way you could take pictures of the mazworx parts installed? I'm thinking about doing the vvl. head and would like to have a visual of what it should look like(ie the water neck, did they tap the side of the head, things of that nature?

you dont tap the head - the solenoids are remote.

You still need to relocated the solenoids since it won't clear the firewall. Plus apparently a few ppl having issue with the 20v CAS so you have to machine the head to run the Hall Sensor.

Scorch S15 is epitome of an S15, but the purpose of the car is to do laps as well. Can't wait to see it in person at this year World Time Attack in Sydney.

Originally was going to used a Q45 (flange is 90mm but the inside is about 85mm)but now running a 90mm Plazmaman throttle body.
Presently collecting more ancillaries hardwares and softwares for it, will post up once we put the engine in.

This engine by itself is not 20k, but it pretty damn close to it. Plus all the other ancillaries it will be easy mid 30k by the time I'm finish with it. Unfortunately I underestimated the cost when I take on this built...but oh well.

Originally was after something abit different in the engine compartment, but after seeing some of the results from guys who were running the VE setup I couldn't resist.

Since I wanted a IQ3 dash, it just make it alot easier to just get a new Haltech ecu and it's version of the dash for plug and play...plus I got a pretty special deals on them.

The car is built for circuit racing so response is foremost important, but I've been thinking of the GTX 3582r once we get use to the current turbo.

I was going to run that 35R turbo, only problem I was facing was the powerband was all peaky. I built my car for the same kinda events. Nothing better then grip racing!

+1, I've had enough tuners tell me that they've managed to get reliable spark out of the stock coilpacks up to 600 hp range. More than enough for most of us would ever need.

I should have gotten a 3076 instead of a 3582. It was too laggy for taste and made the car very unresponsive below 5k rpm.

Sorry, I havent read the whole thread but what is your plan for the transmission? Almost everybody I know who is making over 450hp with a twin plate clutch are running RB25 or Z32 transmission for a reason. Are you planning on opting for something better than an SR tranny? I know enough folks who ate even OS Giken gear set SR20 out here. SR trannies HATE twin plates....

you will be fine to rebuild a z32 trans with a short shifter and run a twin disc. same combo im running and i love it. not as fun as when i had a dog box but almost same results and is alot more reliable for a fraction of the cost. then do the ppg gear set later down the road.

The following are some of the stuff that we had ordered

Prefab front tubs (I found that I'm having scuffing issue at full lock on the current setup)
Cusco SR20det Engine Mounts (hopefully this will lower the engine abit 10-15mm +10mm from current nismo mount)
12x Rocker Studs
12x Rocker Washers
12x Stainless Dome Nuts(these just tidy up the usual ugly nuts and bolts that come with the engine)
SR20ve Exhaust Gasket
Nismo Thermostat
S/H Thermostat Housing
S13 Dipstick ( engine didn't come with these)
Sard type RJ Fuel Pressure Reg
2x AEM Fuel Filters
AEM Pencil Coils
Plazmaman Throttle Body (proper 90mm, originally was going to purchased a Q45)


So if everything go to plan the following weeks should see us starting on the car. Some of the things that on the to do list for now are...

Inspect old engine (Now some of you may have read that the originally excuse to purchased this new engine because the old one blew...well we not entirely sure about that. Will keep you guys posted, if anything we might be able to salvage it for some coins)
Remove old engine, gearbox and ancillaries
Clean up engine bay
Cut and weld new front tubs (hopefully will be here end of next week)
Respray engine bay
Replace new engine bolts and nuts with new stainless nuts
Redrill exhaust manifold to match ve port
Ceramic coated exhaust manifold and turbo rear housing.

^^^ I wish...I'm enlisted a mate who will be helping me with the car. It's actually quite convenience since he abit of jack of all trades ie parts shop, custom fabricator mechanic and auto electrician lol.

Epic day...we started at 8am with Taark arriving with all the necessary gears to pull the motor out. All in all we did the whole thing within 7hrs....the man is so meticulous and efficient it's amazing :thumb:.
Initially we start going over the old motor to see what has been giving the miss firing, which back then I was told that the engine has grenade itself by a certain workshop. The engine kick over the first go with no obvious noise or miss firing :wtf1: While checking over Taark found that there were some earthing cables that weren't done up properly. On removing one of them the car immediately start miss fire (the exact same symptom that the car been doing the last few months). Anyway we'll be open up the sump and have another looksie to be sure, but going by what we have seen it could be that the loose earthing has cause one or more of the coils to fail causing the miss fire.

it's amazing how much the s15 engine bay looks exactly like the s14 engine bay, front core support and everything. the bumper support for the headlights looks like the only bit that's different.

it's amazing how much the s15 engine bay looks exactly like the s14 engine bay, front core support and everything. the bumper support for the headlights looks like the only bit that's different.

The Mazworx intake manifold come with grooves rather than using gasket for sealant, unfortunately they didn't come with the rubber orings, so we got some make for it.

To be honest I don't know why they weren't provided, I wasn't awared that the manifold come with the orings for sealant until it arrived. With the o-rings, my mate know a mate's shop that specialise in making rubber products so he just go there and try on different sizes until he found one that fit. The one things that alot of ppl not awared of when doing VVL conversion is that there so many little custom parts that involved...I'm lucky to have this mate helping me out.

Just confirmed with Mazworx the O-Rings are meant to come with the manifold.
I know Spenda (from NS.com) got O-Rings with his.

^^^ Yeah I just noticed that Eric posted on my thread at NS, will be getting some orings and vacumn fittings send over.

So we started the day thinking that we could get the tubs in fully welded and then may be an undercoat for the engine bay, that certainly not the case. It turn out that there a lots of differences between a 180sx and an s15 front tubs. There were a lots of cutting and trimming and tacked and retacked. Then since Taark using a Tig so there was a lot of frustration with the sealant causing contamination in the welds, however Taark eventually got them in there Alleluia Alleluia.
Really feel sorry for the man, but by the end of it all he did an excellent job for a first timer.
So if anyone contemplating of getting these tubs for their s14/s15 then get them as an individual since there will be some mods that need to be done to get them to fit. Otherwise the quality of Rex Kelway Tubs is :thumb:

Heat shield, wiper motor, clutch and brake back on...heat shielding is a bitch of a job, the material doesn't stretch at all. The trick to it if anyone else contemplating is to do it in smaller segments. Oh well as long as it do it job.

Depends on what you're looking for. The build quality is amazing and it's super light. The car was setup for road racing at the time so having light quality parts meant more to me (thus the purchase).

I'd do it again if I was building another car for road racing.

Yeah we went to the length of dropping the subframe to remove the stock tank setup (heavy too ~35kg) and with the new setup weighing about ~25kg (dry) that should even it out abit. Also I'll only be running at half tank of fuel at the track(40lt fuel cell).

I think water/meth is more an American thing, hardly anyone over here run it apart from dedicated drag cars. We'll be running on race E85 (same control fuel that used on our domestic racing series) that should be good enough.
