My dog is dying!!.. :(
6/3/09 (Wednesday)
SAD SAD DAY!!! I have a Chihuahua mixed breed with Pomeranian AND I got him for my birthday, I call him RENTON! (from eureka 7!) My dog today has just been diagnosed with Parvo! He is still under a year old and has all his vaccination shots and everything but still managed to pick up this deadly viral disease. He started acting differently around us at the beginning of this week: not eating, depressed, not very active, and doesn’t response to us when we call him. I thought he was just being really picky with food again, like always, and never gave it a second thought that it could be a health issue. BUT last night he started to throw up foams of yellow stomach acid and that’s when I got really worried! So today in the morning i woke up to see him standing here in my room just staring at me with the saddest face I ever saw him have. Its that face that tells you there is something wrong, but not shortly after looking at him, he diarrheas right there on the floor (thank god for tile flooring) without him knowing it and it turns out to me full of BLOOD! Took him to the vet and had him tested for whatever it could be and it turns out it was Parvo!! Turns out there is treatment for this viral disease BUT the quote that they gave me was OUT of my budget!!($1366.00). I don’t know what to do!! I want to save him but I don’t have the money and the only other option there are is to put him down! IM SOOO SAD!!!! Gloomy day plus this = saddest day since my mother passed away! Im going to talk to my friends and see if I could come up with more money to TRY and get his treatment! So im asking if any zilvians could spare some donations for my dog/friend/family member to get his treatment if not its all good!! Thanks for reading this POST and wish renton luck! Here is my paypal just in case ([email protected])

my friends dog had the same exact thing...
he survived with no medical crap. he was all depressed and didnt do shit for like 2 weeks and then out of nowhere he started running around eating and playing. its common for lil pups. we were going to let him die since hes not worth the 1,000 dollars but he didn't so we sold him after. |

My dog had that last month. Apparently it is something that is going around this year.
He did not eat anything for almost two weeks, yet kept throwing up. He refused even his favorite foods, and laid in one place all day. After about a week when holding him I could feel all his bones, and thought the worst. However, he seems to have slowly gotten over it, with no medical treatment. All the vet did was give him a shot to stop the vomiting. At first he would only eat human food, but last week he started eating his dog food as well. Now he seems his happy usual self, and is gaining his normal weight back. I know what you are going through. Those few weeks watching my dog uncertain if he will make it and unable to do anything about it were really depressing. I hope your dog will pull through this as well. |

Get him Pedyalite and give him like 5 shots of it every 20 min, boiled chicken liver. Keep him quarantined in one place. And anti biotic pills. Our dog got better within 2-3 days

I had a puppy with Parvo too. Cost about $2k to get her better, but she did live. It's not a for sure dying kinda thing.
I hope your puppy pulls through it though.

Probably a combination of both. It's been like 15 years since that happened to my puppy. Hell, the dog that it happened to was put to sleep last year because she was losing her ability to walk and function and couldn't control her bladder. She had a good run though.

My dog had similar symptoms to that but it wasn't parvo, turned out to be a swollen liver due to my mom giving him chocolate from time to time so he was intoxicated. Changing his diet to nutritional supplements and some pedialyte helped him pull through, you might wanna have a second opinion on that diagnose.

im not apart of this forum (boyfriends screename) but i came across your thread and i had to make a comment. Im currently taking care of my pit puppy that also has parvo. My uncle had her at the time when she first got sick. I took her to my job which is an animal hosp. and she was dying, she had a temp. of 105 and her white blood count was at 1. I started treating her and now her white blood count is at 6 and is doing better.
PM me if you need advice. Also it is very contagious (transfered through feces so keep all your other dogs away if you do have any. The dog must be qaurrentined.) |

Most vet's have financing available, not sure if you want to go that route. I was approved for 3k for my rottie's knee surgery, ended up finding a good vet in mexico to do the job for $700. If you want to take you dog to a vet in mex, I'll take you. A good vet in mex will cost you about a quarter of what it does here.

I couldn't take a puppy dying.
My dog, Helen, was put down late last year after we believe she suffered a stroke (head tilted at 45* angle constantly, very poor walking, couldn't walk straight). The only solace I had was that was very old (probably 14 or 15) and she had had a good life. Like I said, if she were a pup, it would've devastated me. Best of luck!

I hope your dog gets better. Our family has insurance for our pets, just in-case thing's happen. At one point we did not have insurance, and our dog was attacked by a raccoon. He was bleeding heavily, we had to get it stitched up and it ran about 1k for just one leg. So in the long run it's worth it.

I am deeply deeply thankful for all the advices that everyone is giving me and sharing with me the experiences with their lose your pets/friends/family members!!
I am currently working with pedyalite injections through the mouth and adding a dosage of antibiotic every few hours! HE KEEPS throwing it up but in a decreasing amount of fluids, meaning he his starting to keep more of the fluids down! I am also noticing that his diarrheas is becoming more and more clear, less colored with blood. BUT he is still very tired and weak from everything hopefully he pulls thorught!!! THANKS again everyone with the support!

Dope coloring on that pit ^^^. You know what kind of pit it is?
This is my best friend's pit. She is half blue blood, half red nose, and smart as shit. We taught this dog so many tricks and she can open the latch on the back gate with her nose (we can't get her to close it). She is so well trained that we can leave the front door to the house wide open and we can trust her to look around in the front yard and not chase shit or run away. Pits really are the greatest dogs if they aren't raised stupidly and treated with only love. I want one so bad but I can't be home enough to raise a puppy. Here she is sleeping in her favorite chair (yes, she is part of the family and treated as such) I really do feel for your dog. I have treated all of mine like they are younger siblings as well. A good dog will love you forever.

Sort of force feed it. Not too much force, just like place it in his mouth, he wont spit it out. By the pedialyte I meant give him like 3-5 shot glasses of pedialyte every 20-30 min. |

Thanks everyone for their effort and concern but he has passed on this morning while we were sleeping. He has lost the battle to stay alive but started the journey to a better future! I am sad to say he was a great dog that i dont think i could ever replace.
I am afraid right now to even look at him or even pick up his lifeless body to hold. I am scared to see him in such a stilled motion and wonder if he is mad at me for any reason at all. He was always happy to see me no matter what condition i am in, he always got the best of me with all his effort. Thanks again everyone for your support! Sad sad day.
