I'd like to hear how you turbo (or other highly modified!!!) Nissan guys tune your engines.
*Who has used the Apex'i S-AFC, ITC??? *Anyone with a stand alone ECU??? -Haltech, Motec, SDS, Electromotive??? *Anyone just have their original ECU recalibrated? |

Well Heres my contribution.
At the moment i do not drive a 240 sx but a toyota mr2 turbo. And what is disscused all the time between mr2 guys is weather to go piggy back or stand alone. The best bet we have always come up with is just go strait to stand alone. In the end it will cost less than all the piggy back computer (depending on what unit you get). If you know of a reputable dyno and tunning facility it will make both options easier. But Stand Alone is the way to go for cost and tunability (sp, is that even a word?) |

this may or may not be useful info, and it's similar to what matts14 said, but when i asked about the S-AFC and if it would benfit, i was told it's only as good as the person who can tune it, and you need access to a dyno to see what's going on because you can actually rob your engine of power (or in some cases blow it!). i've heard you need a piggyback controller (or standalone) if you vent your blow off valve to atmosphere or something, or else it will backfire or die.
#### that would be weird starting a topic then like 5 years later you get a reply <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> |

Well the need for a piggy back or standalone in regards to the backfire is more aimed towards fuel management. When you vent your BOV to atmosphere and dont plub it back in your metered air that the maf sees ends up being less when it actually gets to the engine, hence your car runs richer than normal and you have unspent fumes that are expelled and tend to shoot flames or "fireballs" whatever you want to call them...an easy solution to this is to place your maf after the bov closer to the tb and put your bov before so that the air that is actually metered is the air it will receive...
