I have a question. What's the difference between injen intake pipe, AEM intake pipe and stock intake pipe?
Does the aftermarket one do anything special to the air-flow?

Sure, look at your intake piping right now (stock), and look at the the inside of the pipeing. See how restrictive it is? Plus AEM and INJEN pipeing is bigger allowing more air to be sucked in. And what does more air mean? Means= more air to be burned with the fuel to create more HORSEPOWERRR!!!. There is not much Diff. between the Injen And AEM pipes, both need extensions to turn into a cold air intake (almost same price for the regular intake) You'll notice a slight HP gain, depending on your year and how well your is tuned up. Also you can hear the differnce.
Of course there are diff. intakes for the 240sx. Such as Apexi, Blitz, etc. Since I'm gonna do a swap I'm goin to go get the Blitz SUS intake later on. I believe thats cold air, anyway longshot better to get a cold air intake, your gonna be spending as much for one if you get the extension. Might as well hit two with one. Peace!

You're right. Then why not make a bigger piping your self and get just the filter than pay around $100.
Also, I don't think longer piping is a good idea. Shorter pipe will have a stronger vacuum power.

Some people just purchase the K&N airfilter and put it on their stock pipe and get the same gains as a purchased cold air intake such as AEM or Injen. IMHO I would get a injen. I hear lots of positive comments about it on this board and have friends that have it. It is a good intake

LOL. If I had the machine's that make intakes like AEM and Blitz, apexi, etc have I would. But makin one your self ( meaning a untrained person) would be hard. Also aftermarket intakes are not really longer the the stock, the piping is bigger in diameter, I think and not as restricitive. Only way to see where your biggest gain (low, mid, highend) is to strap it on a dyno.
Also I think the best air filters, if you can afford it, are Apexi (does not have to be cleaned, it is a "dry" type) Blitz LM or SUS, or HKS's. I haven't seen any reviews or dyno charts for the Greddy intake yet. Peace!

i heard that the cold air intake actually gained less hp than the short ram...AEM that is i didnt hear anything about Injen. So you guys think i should go with Injen? What about the filters...i know AEM uses K&N filters..what about Injen...does it make a difference?

AEM does not make a cold air intake for the 240.

well if you are choosing between aem or injen air intakes, i would suggest you go wid the injen. I owned them both and the injen tube circumference is larger than the aem. Larger circumference = larger air = more horsepower.

But if you cant do that, i guess you can go to an autoshop see if they have junk aluminum tubin and slap a filter to it and presto cheap intake!

Also one last sidenote, the injen is actually carb legal, aem isnt legal for the 240sx yet.

The most effective intake would be a custom make where you run the piping down from the throttle body IMO. Only problem with that is anything i'd have to try and do myself kinda leaves A LOT of room for error. And when it comes to modifications errors means money lost. That's why I was really considering the Injen CAI, I heard it's better somewhere around here.

to the chimp: what i was implying was that it was tested by AEM (at the same time as the short ram) and it got less...which is of couse why it isnt it production. I havent heard anything about the Injen cold air. C'mon man, gimme a little more credit than that.

lol.. ok. I see what your saying.

honestly there isn't much of a difference in peak power gain b/w the SRI and the CAI.. the only difference I've seen is that the sri used to loose some of it's effectiveness as it got hot under the hood, whereas I never notice that with the CAI.

I have been told numerous times that if your throttle body is ony 2.5 inches wide then there is no need to go any larger in diamter cause the 2.5 inch will restrict it.

Cause no matter what it will have to go through 2.5 inches.

This is similar to the exhuast issue, you could have 4 inch crush bent exhuast all day but you will still have the very restrictive 1 inch bend where it gets crushed.

But hey if you all are right then prove me wrong cause im just going by hear say.

I asked because I was in the process of doing what you did with the custom intake and someone said that the battery should be in a vented place since it gives out toxic fumes. What's your take on that?
