USDM SR20DE swap into a S13 help please
I've searched and could not find an answer. I recently acquired a usdm sr20de motor. I was told that it would be pointless to put that motor in my car. Curious to know why that would be. I'm familiar with what would be involved (det manifolds, t-stat housing, etc.) but this just threw me off. Please advise.

Not pointless if you want to swap it in and take the time/money to build it up.
You figure if you're gonna build the hell out of an SR, why spend the money to import an engine that you'll be tearing apart anyway. I'm not sure what all is involved in getting a running USDM SR into your S13, but I'm sure it isn't any worse than any other swap people are doing these days. |

USDM SR20DE is a FWD motor. The likelyhood that it the block is tapped for RWD motor mount brackets is very unlikely. You could always weld a bracket on there but that's just too much of a pain in the ass when you can buy a JDM RWD SR20DE or DET motor and bolt it right in there.

I see. So the mounts (or lack thereof) would be my issue. I'll have to look over the block again to see if the mounts are there. I just got a helacious deal on this motor which is why I'm pushing for it. if not, back to square one.

ITS WAY DIFFERENT!!!!!!
Your wasting time even thinking about it. Not worth the time and money that you would dump into it. The trans is on the wrong side considering the CAS would be in the firewall. starters are different, mounts and such are all different, flywheels and all are different. |

Ah, I see. Thanks for the info. I'll drop the project. I was looking forward to it too . Rained on my parade.
So, where to go from here now. Where can I pick up an rwd sr20de? |

Since you're back at square one, your first step is research (considering that the need for an SR is already established)
www.srswap.com will give you a great outline of what will be involved in the swap. When I first did my swap, I used this as a step by step. It's very good. As far as getting a motor, if you don't know a whole lot of people, you're gonna pay full retail for a clip or motorset. I got mine at JDM recycler for 2800 + tax ouch! If you still want to do it or have any other questions, searching past threads works wonders. I mean REALLY searching. (don't just type up "sr swap" get a billion posts just like this one, and give up. Keep trying!) After you've done your swap. Give back to the community that helped you do it. IE when a noob comes on sharing a post strangely familar to your first post, help 'em out instead of fueling the ignorance with some flaming. good luck |

the block is tapped for RWD motor mounts , but keep in mind its a FWDcar so you would have to get a JDM sr20de tranny for it and on top of that your gonna have your intake manifold running towards your firewall and exhaustmanifold runing under the car pointing towards one ofthe wheels instead of headingtowards the back of the car
