clutch problems

i have a s14 sr an i think the clutch might be slippin but not sure if thats all. i bled out the lines an put new fluid in after i did the swap an noticed that my petal has about a two inch dead gap in it where after i engage it it wont come back out all the way i have to pull it back with my foot, also when i get on it it sounds like metal popping or grinding from the clutch an it. when i last drove it it took forever to get it moving. i was gettin smoked by semi's its that bad. i tested it tho i started the car put it in gear an let off the clutch with the brake on an it died. any suggestions?

Drop your transmission and check the clutch and flywheel. When you did the swap did you get a new clutch or just use what you had?

That could be air in the lines or it could be a failing clutch slave cylinder. I know on my S13 coupe, it took me almost two bottles of hydraulic fluid to bleed the clutch after replacing the slave cylinder. It just didn't want to bleed properly. Worked out because the fluid in the lines was a milky white and I essentially flushed the whole system. Bad/old fluid in the lines may be a problem for you as well.

There is no popping or grinding noise I have ever heard from a car that was not very bad. I wouldn't even drive the car until I figured out what was going on.

Your engine doesn't make a whole lot of torque at idle. When you engage the clutch at idle, it will kill the engine so long as the clutch has *some* friction to it. The only way it wouldn't kill the engine is if the clutch is not engaging at all or the clutch is 100% dead.

We can give you ideas to look for to determine the problem, but with a clutch, there's no way to tell what's going on without pulling the transmission and looking at it yourself. Check the T-O bearing, pressure plate, flywheel surface, clutch disk, slave cylinder, basically everything. But it has to be visually inspected.
