well im in the process of changing my head gasket and since i had the head off i said why not port out the head some while its off. well here it is the right one has not been touched yet and the left has been ported. please tell me what you think. i think its pretty good seeing as how im 16 and doing this in a small shed.

also i would like to know if there is anyway to tighten the timeing chain on a ka24e. if not do i have to but a timeing chain kit?

how are you going to measure the flow rate of each port? also, you will need to port the intake runners equally. I would advise not to do this. also, i believe there was a thread on this a few months back.

I wouldn't recommend porting your head either without a flow bench or some way to measure the volume of the ports.

Your best bet is to just smooth out the runners. Do not take any material off. Just go get a dremel and a sanding bit and smooth out the casting. You don't want the intake ports glass smooth because you want the air and fuel to mix. Without some roughness to disturb the flow, the mixing well not be to its potential. On SR heads, you dont have to worry about it too much just from the way its designed. I cant really tell what head yours is.

The exhaust ports you want as smooth as possible.

I believe aceinhole wrote a thread on this YEARS ago. He seems to just be smooting out the casting imperfections, which is fine without a flow bench. DO NOT remove very much material if you are DIYing it on porting though. It would help if the valves were removed so that you can go deeper into the ports. If you decide to do that you should have a valve job done on the head before you re-install it though as you will probably touch the valve seat here and there. Good job on taking the initiative, but be careful. A mistake will require a LOT of money in professional headwork to fix, or a new head.
