A DragonBall video game that FINALLY does it RIGHT!!!!!
...and then IMMEDIATELY ufcks it up almost IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!
So, over the weekend, I went to return a Wii game that I had gotten my kids for Christmas. So, I lubed up, wore some loose pants, and trotted into Game Stop to, hopefully, find a used game that they'd like more. Fortunately, my boys are some real OG's and they found something for cheaper than what we traded in...even with accessories. That's another story for another day. But, I figured while I was in there, I might as well grab something for the PS4. Can't play NFS forever. So, I ended up grabbing DragonBall Xenoverse XV So, let me give you a little backstory of the purpose of the game. An unknown force has helped some of the villains in the DragonBall Z universe avoid being defeated in some of the most pivotal fights of the series. Trunks, who is a "timecop", recruits YOU to help go through time and set things right. So, the game starts out with you fighting as Goku through a couple of fights. The graphics are great, but it's an anime cartoon so it is made to look exactly like that. There's a very open enviornment but you can't really knock people through EVERYTHING. If I'm a Z fighter and I punch you into a rock or a building, I need you to go through it or at least into it. However, the open environment, easy controls, and familiar graphics make the lack of breakable objects livable. After your first few fights, the story unfolds, and Trunks ask you to join him in the fight to set time right. Then, you build your own character. You have different Z universe races to choose from (sayins, earthlings, namekians, etc...). You can do male or female. You can pretty much build YOU within reason. Skin color, hair color, eye color, outfits, all types of cool things. I mean, it's not Destiny, or NBA 2K16 or something. It's anime...so it still looks anime. But, if you're a Z nerd, this is still pretty awesome. After you make you, you go back and see Trunks. You guys do a quick fight to get you acclimated with the controls (because you're pretty much just button pressing during Goku's fights) and then, everything GOES TO COMPLETE SHIT!!!! You go to this time cop land thingamjigure. So, after talking with Trunks, he makes you talk to EVERYONE in the time town thingie. It's incredibly time consuming and extremely pointless. You talk to roughly 30...we'll just call them people to save time...people and you get a useless pill. Then, you have to go to all the little stores in the time place just for them to tell you that they're closed. After this, you have to find Trunks again and THEN you start...well...almost Your first mission is the fight between Goku, Piccolo, and Goku's brother Radditz. Long story short, Radditz dodges Piccolo's special beam cannon (that killed him originally) and now you have to go kill him...actually...that's the whole story..so yeah...you gotta go do that. However, you're fighting along side Goku and Piccolo. So, it's 3 against 1. I'm sure you COULD lose, but I can't imagine how. You don't even have to wait to fight. You can literally double or triple team Radditz and he CAN'T block all of the attacks. Even if he's hitting one of you, the other two can attack him. Hey, you wanted to fight. You got a fight. Beggars can't be choosers. So, by this time, it's probably been quite some time since you've actually been in a fight...which is what you bought the game for. So, you finally move the story forward and YOU'RE OFF...tooooo...kinda sorta train. But not on moves. You get a scouter and you've gotta learn how to use it, right? RIGHT! So, you fly around a sort of wasteland (think Vegeta fighting Goku as the big monkey) finding "items". Ready to fight yet? GREAT. You finally get to fight...some little saibymen(sp)...you know those little green dudes that look like brussel sprouts with claws. After that, you fight Radditz...again. If you're keeping count, this is time number 3; once as goku, once WITH goku, and now. Here's where things get squirrely yet again. After this "training" mission, you have to wait a while and do a bunch of menial ridiculous BS until you get another "time mission". The good news is you can now enter off mission fights. You can use all the characters you've beat so far...sooooooo...radditz. It's set up like a Street Fighter-esque grid system. Good news is that you can use Goku and Piccolo. But, who wants to. You want to use yourself, right? Of course you do. And, you've fought Radditz a few times, so this should be a pretty easy scrub. Something to pass the time. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOPE!!!! Radditz's power level bumps to about a gabillion and every move in his arsenal is now at his disposal. If you've made it this far, and continue to play the game, GOD BLESS YOU!!! This is as far as I got. I'm returning this BUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLsh!t tonight and picking up that Assassins game. The one where you have long hair and wear and a short-sleeve hoodie or something. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ wish me luck

I'm not that tech savvy Falkon. I'm old. Me being able to understand and document anything more complex than colekovision is a miracle.

You know, all these DBZ talk awakens the nerd in me. You know, the kind of guy that was late for school almost every day and watched dragonball in the morning and then waited until the spanish channel showed it again.. No spanish understood.
Anyway, it really sounded like a cool premise different from all the typical button mashing game (although I like them). You should quit being a quitter and finish it . Also, this post makes me think of that awesome Dragonball MMORPG we can't play because we're Gaijin and America sucks. Also, that Romo gif is 10/10. |

Ditto. The Spanish DBZ was far superior to both the English and Japanese voice acting. They actually made Frieza sound threatening.
