Ka24et turbo gods help!
hey this is my FIRST TURBO build. its a very mild build but i came into some trouble.to make things short and cut to the point i need some help to finish my ka24et. sohc. im in the end process of it and just need help tuning etc. my hp goals are 200-250.
mods are. t3/t4 turbo external wastegate log manifold 2.5 downpipe stock ecu, injectors, maf 2.5 intercooler piping 12:1 FMU Walbro 255lph fuel pump greddy type blov ebay fmic egr removed.(not all emissions removed b/c i live in cali) ngk spark plugs stanza electric fans now i need to change my base timing a few degrees. and find out why when i press the brake pedal my engine sounds starved. i have the boost gauge and bov in the brake booster vac line.i idle about 750rpms and my boost gauge reads 20hg.when i press down the pedal it spongy and goes all the way down. it sounds like my engine is about to die and sometimes it does when not warmed up. i also want to know what is the procedure to change base timing on a sohc. i've search and no results. im not experience in tuning and would like to know if anyone can help me out. anyone here local enough with good turbo knowledge please help me out. any other comments on build if constructive is nice too. thanks all. excuse the ugly phone pics. |

Agreed. Upgrade the injectors please, you'll run out of fuel way before you can really hit boost.
As far as the engine stalling, you should NOT be pulling vacuum from the brake booster line. There's a check valve in it that won't allow bypass air to travel back through to the intake. Use one of the spare ports from the EGR to tap vacuum signal, you want it as close to the throttle body or after (but not on the booster). There's a couple small ports for the charcoal canister too that will work fine.

Also your blow off valve is not recirculated, therefore because KA motors run off a MAF ( Mass Air Flow Sensor ) all air that enters the intake system is metered. When you do not recirculate the blow off valve the air that gets released when you let your foot of the pedal causes the car to stall and or hesitate because the ECU thinks the car got a certain amount of air, when in fact it got less. Unless you compensate for the lost air due to the blow off valve you will have constant stalling and hesitation issues. An SAFC can compensate somewhat for such a loss using decel settings, however no tune will be able to fully tune it out and as a result you will always have slight issues in such a system.
For further help with tuning and setup I recommend checking out: www.ka-t.org as they have extensive experience and lots of users running similar setups. |

Screw the FMU, buy my chipped stanza ecu and do it right son. Im running a chipped stanza ecu in my car and im currently running 9 psi off a t3/t4 and im pretty sure its around 230-240hp....buy it....NOW! Also I have some direct drop-in rx7 460cc injectors that im willing to sell to prevent you from blowing your sweet engine.

Running a FMU and stock injectors works just fine. Just retard the base timing and you will be fine. Max boost should only be 7-8 psi though, but that should be plenty to reach your goals.

No matter what someone else said, it's apparent the brake booster source is your problem if it's stalling when you brake. Think about it logically.

stock injectors with FMU = ticking time bomb.
that FMU will push 12 psi of fuel pressure for every pound of boost. If you think of it mathematically...less than a Bar of boost, you can be "trying" to push over 100 psi. There is psi from the OE Fuel pressure regulator as well. I would say like 6 or 7 psi would easily be over 100 psi. *tick tick tick tick tick |

You need injectors for sure as well as a tune. I'm running deastchwerks 440cc injectos with an safc neo. Not saying to get a safc (I have someone elite on safcs) but you need some kind of tune.

He doesn't need injectors or a tune lol. Running FMU and stock injectors is plenty safe and good for a first project. There isn't room for expansion, but it will run fine.
Don't listen to them. But I would agree with the others about your vacuum source. Trying to switch it to a different spot can't hurt. |
