Kouki S14 - Genuine Financial Mistake

Hey guys.

Thought I would put this up on here as was reading through it again on another forum and missed it a little, then remembered how bad it f*cked me over for the forseable future financially. Lesson learned, don't buy unreliable, modified cars with help from the bank. Anyway, I digress...

Bought this last June/July, essentially blind - as such I had seen photos and a build thread on it, but never inspected it myself before arriving to drive it home. Second time I have done this now, would have thought I'd have learned by now.

I live in Somerset (UK), the car was based right on the East Coast, around 200 miles away. Might not seem like much for you Americans but it's a fair travel for a car in my opinion. The car was bought without the wheels, as I hated them!

Spec went like this:

H-Dev stage 1a chip
NGK grade 7 iridium plugs
HKS adjustable actuator on standard t28 turbo
Gizzmo boost controller
Trust/Greddy airfilter
Solid ally inter-cooler pipes and pigeon mod
FMIC
Bigger viscous fan fitted (like the Gk tech one)
Ally radiator
Silicon hoses
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator (stock fuel pressure)
Walbro pump
Apex type 2 4 branch manifold
Unknown japanese turbo elbow
Japspeed flexi downpipe less than 1000 miles old
Custom hayward and scott shotgun exhaust with uprated hangers
Poly engine mounts
Driftworks superlight flywheel
Exedy 3 paddle clutch
4:1 welded diff
Solid diff bushes
Nismo short shifter
Tein front coilovers
Meister R rear coilovers
Tein front strut brace
Ebay rear strut brace
Magic racing adjustable upper rear arms
Magic racing front tension rods
drilled and grooved rear discs
Subframe locking collars
Front wiring loom been tucked up after notching the inner wing area
Genuine Bride Zeta 3s
Driftworks harnesses both in date.
Driftworks hydraulic handbrake with driftworks lines and custom made extended lever.
Stock handbrake moved to otherside and welded in. Centre console cut to fit
Hella supertone horns
Sony cd player with ipod mount
Uprated speakers front and rear
White led dash bulbs
Gizzmo boost controller under dash next to column
Autometer Phantom boost gauge in carbon ash tray blank
Battery cut off concealed in the centre arm rest
Battery relocated to boot in battery box
Genuine Kouki front bumper
Genuine rear bumper
Kouki front grille
Kouki indicators with sidelights and indicators
Hids

Car was plenty fast enough for me, I didn't intend on doing anything at all to it performance-wise.

My fiance originally came from that part of the country, so we stayed with her family for the weekend and picked it up at the same time. It wasn't long before I threw on the R33 GT-R wheels that I bought with it and also started to test fit my Meisters.

I daily drove it alike that for a while, but started to suspect something was up with the back end due to a clunking sound on rotation. Took me a week to discover that eight of the ten spokes on one of the GT-R wheels had cracked completely through.

This was as good of an excuse as any to prepare the car for my rear Meisters!

My friend and I cut the arch tubs and rolled the rear arches beyond anything I have done before. We made about 50-60mm either side.

I got round to painting them black temporarily, flipped the skirts and as some may notice, fitted LED rear lights. This is basically the extent of what I did with the car. After this, only thing I did was paint the headlights.

Was so happy with the car at this point, it was everything I wanted. Problem was, I couldn't afford to use it hard as all my money (and some of the banks) was in it and it was my only car. If I smashed this, I would have been screwed for work.

I managed to get a fiberglass Kouki spoiler for the car, which pissed my fiance off to no end. I got it on her birthday and I spent 5x more on the spoiler than I did on her.

I drove it to one last meet at the end of summer, a friend managed to get this photo:

Then as the nights started to get darker and the car started to squeak more and more, I gradually started to swap bit on it for standard stuff with the intention of refurbishing the arms and such. Never got round to it unfortunately as it was draining me of cash.

In total, I had the car about six months, sold it the day before Christmas Eve with it looking standard. I sold everything off of the car, the seats, Nardi (which was mine from before), wheels, spoiler etc.

Ends here, pretty depressingly too. But sh*t happens, I've learnt my lesson and I'm still paying the consequences! Was just having a quiet day at work so thought I would throw this up on here to give others something to read. Actually, don't read it, just look at the pretty pictures as the story is bad!

Sorry to hear! She looked nice! I know the exact struggle haha, I work a full time apprentice heavy duty mechtec job, and even deliver pizzas by night sometimes. Yet somehow I never have money cause my car eats it all haha (Although mostly gas/plates.. tires..) Koukis are awesome but no doubt expensive! Ive got about 6G's into mine right now since importing late last year which is a lot for me as I just graduated last year... Still lots of money to go to get it where I want it. Sorry yours didnt work out for you :c
Mine has some pretty rank squeaks.. Particularily from the trunk as it wont latch properly.

The latch.... damn them! As this was my daily there were a few times I had to fit big things in the boot, such as a lawn mower! The boot lid wouldn't shut afterwards as it had all been pressed down, the amount of times I had to 'adjust' the latch angle with a hammer hahaha

Yeah a buddy of mine also has an S14 Silvia just like mine and he had the same issue. For me the entire bottom plate it connects to is just loose.. Unconnected just kinda chilling where its jammed in haha.
