Rough idle and then dies, sr20det

My sr20 idles very rough and then it dies. I had the idle issues since being caught in a thunderstorm and being forced to drive into a flood and using 91 octane. It used to take a couple of revs while starting up to get to a decent steady idle of 800 rpms. But after a while the motor has started to even bog down and it failed to climb a slope in my parking lot.

I changed my battery thinking that since I have to jump start it so much it must be the root of the problem but it just died even more pathetically. I am also missing splash guards, the car never had them.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

P.S if my battery terminals completely fit but can't reach the bottom of the connector is it a problem? They are fairly snug but I had to hit it with a wrenches to get it on.

Pull your spark plugs out and let the plugs & combustion chambers air-dry real good for a few hrs; and dry any other moisture up in this area... Open up your charge piping & make sure there isn't a bunch of water sitting in there... I had a similar problem after getting stuck in an Okinawa downpour... Last, run your tank as close to empty as possible, then either add some water remover or just fill it to the brim with fresh 93 octane gas... Should be good to go.

Your lacking fuel or air, get a screw driver and adjust the AICV counter clockwise 1 or 2 full turns. You'll need to be able to judge ,so you can put it back if you have to. if that doesn't work then, and you don't have an adjustable fpr, pinch the return fuel line (with locking pliers) and start the car again. Better? you'll have to judge. But first pull ecu codes!

Problems happening with downpours usually are electrical problems. MAFs dont really like water

Try with another one if someone can lend it to you.

Haven't done any of the suggestions yet as I have no socket wrenches. I got to buy a set. However, it seems like if I rev the engine up a few time it can idle although the idle is erratic and threatens to kill itself constantly. Is the AICV the AAC?

Well I did get new gas in a couple of weeks ago. Removed the spark plugs. Just letting it sit the night in the parking lot. I am going to get new ones. Didn't find anything in the charge piping. It was really tough to get it back on though. Spent hours on it. If the piping comes off does anything horrible happen? I just barely got it back on.


I noticed that if I stay on the throttle fighting the bogging of the motor for 10 or 20 minutes it gets to idle again. I'll see what happens with the new spark plugs if I can find them.
edit: Gave up after trying changing the spark plugs as well. Went with BRK7EIX 11 and it just sounded the same.

I let the mechanics deal with it a long with a brake issue.
