I burned myself on my heatsheild while attempting to put my oil stick back in and I was just wondering if it would help anything if I took it off. Cooler engine=more power? or is it just cooler intake = more power? I know it'll make the cabin a bit hotter, but i was just wondering if it would help performance any way.

there are alot of heatshields on our cars like 4 on an s- 14 thats dead weight, so take em offfffffffff

cool, what are some others I could take off (besides the one covering the headers)? If depinstriping my car doesn't take all day (and it looks like it will) I'll rip those out tomorrow.

i don't think its worth it.  you'd only be saving a few pounds.  i'd rather have a cooler engine

engines run better when they're warmer in certain areas

engines run more powerful when the air getting into it is colder

depending on where that heat shield IS is the question

if it keeps ur intake cooler from the block, its good, if it makes ur sparks get hella hot, it's bad, if it does both... find out which oen would help more <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'>

That's a bit extensive for a stock system, don't you think. &nbsp;If you take the heat shield off and don't wrap your header/exhaust, then your engine will heat up more, and that means less power.

Leave it in. &nbsp;My $0.02.

Don't you HAVE to take it out when you put new headers in? And I thought the shield covering the headers was keeping head IN the engine. If it makes it hotter to take that one off, wouldn't it negate the extra power you would be makeing from putting in new headers?

The stock factory heat shield on the exhaust manifold is there to keep the engine compartment heat down, and not to burn yourself. &nbsp;The heat shields on the downpipe primary cat are there to heat up the cat faster for emission purposes. &nbsp;People who change to aftermarket header should either heat wrap the header or have it high heat coated. &nbsp;The shields keep the exhaust pressure downstream hotter and works better overall to heat up both cats for emission as well.

Keep them in is better IMHO. &nbsp;
