so this is what I built for my swap today..
Rb25 trans crossmember for my s14. not pretty but completely functional and its allowing me to place the rb where i think its better. I will be able to use the clutch fan with my own brackets. Excuse the ugly welds, im not a pro..im probably gonna weld the exterior as well tomorrow, smoothen out the edges then sand-blast it and paint it. Will post pix of my motor mounts later. What u guys think? Haters welcome!!

I think it looks good. Judging by dryer in the pic it looks like it was something you did at home. I'm sure if you had a complete medal fabrication shop every tool you needed, endless supplied, and a master welder cert. It would of been better. Someone who can design and fabricate their own parts I got mad respect for. Any averag Joe can do simple bolt-ons.

Any way you can test the strength of that trans crossmember? Might seem cool to you now but you'll be punching yourself in the face later if a weld snaps on that and trans takes a dive... That crossmember holds a lot of weight, and I would imagine much more so with an RB tranny. Not trying to bash your work, but its parts like these that I would not play around with.

same thing with your engine mounts, frfomt he pic the first thing I thought was " they look like theyre gonna fold down under some weight. is there a under arch to support it from folding down ?
good stuff though! saves a ton of money on a mckinney kit |

Thanks for all the comments guys, keep them comming. I want more critique. Today I spot welded the motor brackets and threw the engine back in to double make sure they in the right location. Im still debating what to do with the sway bar-oil pan issue, getting the right sway bar is expensive(if aftermarket) or hard to find (if stock[a31]). So Im considering modifying my stock oil pan by cutting it and rewelding it, i know it's possible but for some reason i cant find any info on it being done before. I also ran into the typical steering shaft hitting the 02 housing issue, this could easily be solved by using an aftermarket 02 housing, shaving down the stock housing (my last alternative 'cause it aint just rubbing a little bit..), or what im considering: moving my whole engine slightly to the passenger side by widening the motor mount holes on my brackets but this would tilt the engine slightly clockwise, but with this last option i would also have to hammer in the firewall to make room for the starter....I'll probably just go with the aftermarket downpipe, Anyway, the mounts are in the right position and ready to fully welded with its vertical brackets, on with some pix.. |

I would probobly box the trans mounts and drill some holes for removing the nuts at a later date and try to box in the engine mounts into the crossmember a little if pssible. Having rubber mounts on the engine and solid mounts on the transmission could create a problem at a later date with the trans mounts cause thats alot of twisting going on against the trans mount.

Some of the welds look too cold. Next time turn the amperage up... Good stuff though.
