I know someone who put them on recently and he said it "wasnt that bad with the dampening on the softest." I can ask him more about them next time I see him. But for my needs that is some STIFF ass shit

i heard its the same dampening as the regular ones, just a stiffer spring. some people say they are crap tho, but thats usually people that never tried em.

my friend who track tested them said that they sucked...he said that theyre a little more circuit oriented than drift...too stiff for any sufficient weight transfer...

people who actually own them should chime in here. Megan Racing is one of our sponsors for our drift car and we run the Track Series and we couldn't be happier. Our driver Johnathan has given us a lot of feed back and he can't say enough about them and the car is driven on the street as well. We are very happy with them and i don't think they are too harsh by any means. I would recommend these to anyone who wants an aggressive suspension setup. We have sold a lot of the track series and all of our customers have given us nothing but rave reviews. If you guys want some installed pics or anything please let me know.

i've spoken to the guys at megan racing regarding the differences and being an owner of MR coilovers, i'd like to defend them against some of the misconceptions in this thread:

1. the street and track dampers ARE different.
2. the track coilovers are nearly TOO stiff for drifting and most uses. The rates are designed for circuit racing just like someone mentioned earlier. Weight transfer is almost gone.
3. on their project car, they had the track coilovers but found them too stiff for drifting themselves and swapped a set of street (8/6) springs onto their track dampers
4. they are working on getting springs individually to sell custom spring rates.

If MR is making "track" coilovers, they should make some that have true 2-way adjustable dampers. I'll never call a damper with 1-way adjustment, "track". Not to say I don't like MR. I have the street coilovers and am satisfied. Very satisfied for the money spent. Just want more companies to start making 2-way adjustable dampers.

your right, i assumed that the poster was referring to drifting...thats why i mentioned that they are more circuit oriented...so i stand corrected: not good for drifting, and good circuit coilovers...i knew someone was gonna twist my words

edit: oh yeah, i forgot to mention that he is a sponsered drifter...so obviously his opinion was very biased towards drift...maybe thats why its etched in my brain that they "suck"...im sure that theyre a more than competent coilover for circuit/road racing...

They sound really stiff. I have my street 8/6 coils on 1/4 stiff or softest, depending on what I'm doing. I can imagine that 12/10 would be nuts.
Enjuku's cars are running Megan coilovers also, and not by force. One of the drivers I know has said great things about drifting the 8/6 setup (Mattback). He loves 'em. The other I haven't heard firsthand, so can't comment. But, they're twin cars, so I'd imagine it's running MR coils also.

i ran into the same problem at first....with that hefty spring you should be at about 25%F and 35%R with the adjustments...no preload on the springs

I dream of it as well.

SAC in Sarasota swears by the Megan coilovers. There drift car has it and a majority of their customers cars and their personal cars. Not the track but its saying something..A couple of the people have track spec though. I need to talk to that one fella

the only time i dont hate my coilovers is when im in college station, dallas or san antonio. houston sucks. i dont have megan but they're 8/6 and for bad roads you don't want that. for my area this is not a date car (unless she has a thing for buckboard wagons). then again, i have polyeurethane bushings too.

whatever, 12/10 is insane off the track. the end.

I've got the 8/6 versions, and they are smooth as silk. i can't imagine a better coilover for daily driving and occassional track days

Why do people keep starting threads asking for opinions about a product AFTER they have already ordered it? Why not do some research BEFORE buying?

I live in houston and have the megan racing coilovers, the street version. I agree with you that the roads in Houston suck. So you can imagine my daily drive.

i agree, it depends on the driver

like i said, my setup rides very soft, imo, with my setting in the middle of Hard and Soft, or about 20 of 1-32 clicks, and I'm also slammed if that matters to any of you

i wouldnt recommend 12/10 to anybody that plans on daily driving their car...my 10/8 monotube is bearable at 1/4 stiffness, but could be very twitchy and edgey at high speeds or bumps at high speeds...stiffness sux unless if your on the right surface i.e. track...sometimes mountain roads...

I have 8/6 and thats stiff enough for a street car. going 12/10 will be stupid for a daily driver i dont care where your from. when I go over a bump or a bunch of them i get tossed up and down a little causing me to have a hard time modulating the throttle. ill just nail even a little pothole causing me to let off the gas for just a second and then hit it a little too hard making it burn out or just have a nasty buck over everything (that makes for an annoying ride and pissed off passengers). I have s14 seats too which have me strapped in nicely but its too hard to avoid. driving with 15s makes things a little more bouncy with the sidewalls for me too which gets annoying.

please tell me you dont have stock shocks now. did you just install a coilover set that stiff while keeping stock fronts on? thats DANGEROUS to drive on like that.... NOT a good idea.

I finished installing my coilovers today. They are fuckin awesome, not too stiff at all. I have them set at 30% front 25% rear, the ride is nice and stiff but not the least bit harsh. It was raining out, and I purposely tried to hit every pothole and bump to see what you people are talking about losing traction, it didn't slip at all, none of that "jumping over bumps" shit, it rides awesome. Really, I don't know what 8/6 feels like, but if you think 8/6 is too stiff and 12/10 is "only for track" then you should really sell your s13 and buy yourself a nice caddy.

well thats good that you are enjoying your coils and dont regret your decision...each person has a different definition of "stiff" and "comfort." but IMO, anything over 10/8 should be left at the track...esp. around my area...keep us updated on your driving impressions...btw, what are you looking for in these? time trials? drift? auto x? or mostly mountainous roads (i cant decide saying which ones more ghey: "touge" or "mountainous roads")?

I actually had them on for about 1 month now. Hmmm I think it is a little too stiff for the street as I live in basically San Francisco, and streets suck here with cable car trax and like water pipes. But when they are on the smoother streets, its awesome. I don't think they are too stiff, about medium harshness, but definitely not too bad. As for drifting, I dunno what people are saying, but I drift fine on them no problem with an ebrake, but I have an SR so that might help..... But I would so recommend these if you like both drift and grip, like I do.

I doubt you'll find streets worse than in the suburbs of new york, i've put them to the test, and for my taste its not harsh AT ALL, I love them. But I think right now they're softer than they should be because of my stock bushings, and otherwise stock suspension with no chassis stiffening, I think the chassis may be soaking up some of the harshness, but I guess we'll see, so far I am very satisfied, and wouldn't change anything about them. Also they have to settle and after I put some miles on them I think they'll soften up even more, then I can make use of the other 70% of damping. Even if they become 50% harsher after bushings, sway bars, strut bars, etc, I say I can still live with them. Handling in the rain is better than stock, so I am satisfied with that also although I can't really put them to test with my pos junkyard tires on steelies. I was worried wet traction would suffer with stiffer suspension, but it didn't.
