Should I rip my resinator box off and put a cone K&N air filter (~$50?) there or just get a whole new intake (~$180) Putting aside looks what is the advantage of getting say the ingen intake over just ripping that box off and getting a new air filter? Also if i were to get an intake how much HP would the CAE (~$100) get me (over just intake alone) and what are the Advantaged/disadvantages of that. Thanks in advance...

If you want to save money and just custom fit a K&N on there go for it, it would be just the same as buying a pre fitted one. The CAI would maybe get you an extra 2-4 horsepower, not great for a $100+ mod but who said you could'nt make your own CAI !!!!

i dont think there is a difference between Injen and a cheap brand like OBX for just intake....

i've had just a pop charger and now i have n intake, i havent noticed much of a difference in horsepower, but torque increased with the addition of the piping, so i'd recommend the full intake

Well it looks like going with intake would be the best way anyway. I went to the local car place and they wanted $100 bucks for an adapter flange thing to connect the air filter to the stock piping. I can't really make custom stuff so I would end up spending almost as much on that mod as I would getting a whole new intake (assuming a new intake comes with a good air filter) Thanks again for the info.

i got my injen intake with cai for 220 total.  i think its worth the money.

If you want the CAI then go with injen, but if you just want the a better intake, get the K&N cone filtercharger kit.  I started with the k&n filter element w/o resonator, then switched to the cone and it made a huge difference.

how can anyone justify paying $50 for just a filter.  its still going thru stock piping, so how much could the gain actually be?

ok, but why get a little gain, when you can get more gain for not a lot of $$

Aside from letting more air through quicker, K&N filters, and others like them will last a loooong time.
$50 for a filter that last several years is actually more economical than buying a dozen or more of those paper filters for $10 over the same amount of time.
I put a k&n in my old car, just so i wouldn't have to buy a new paper filter every 6 months.

Remember a  K&N filter flows 50% more air then a paper or foam filter.  Plus after 8000 miles you have better flow then a new paper filter.  

Not to mension the increase in throttle response in your low end.  The 240 intake system when stock, needs all the help it can get.
