S14 Subframe Stud snap/torque spec

Alright guys, I'm trying to avoid the "Fuck Me" moment with snapping off one of the 4 subframe studs while tightening up my subframe after my SPL bushing install.

The FSM says 72-87 ft/lbs
SPL says 72-87 ft/lbs

Now, when you hear about all of these guys snapping these studs off with breaker bars and whatnot, are they exceeding the torque spec or are these studs cheese and should we run them looser than spec, say "good and tight"? 72-87 ft/lbs seems pretty damn tight for an M12 bolt, considering the crank pulley bolt is double the size and is only 105 ft/lbs...

Looking for input and looking to learn from someone else's mistake so I don't make it myself.

Thanks guys and gals!

I've never heard of anyone breaking a subframe stud while tightening. I've always torqued mine to 80ft lbs without any problems. 80ft lbs isn't squat. I've seen far higher torque specs for M12 hardware.

I think more people have issues with them when attempting to remove than reinstall. Make sure you clean the threads and use anti-seize compound on them.

I use copaslip (copper anti-seize) on all of my fasteners, but have always heard the lubed vs un-lubed torque specs and how there is usually about a 25% difference. So given we are at ~80ft lbs, I didn't want to effectively crank her up to 100 given nissan most likely used no lube and obviously had fresh distorted nuts.

I am overthinking as usual.

Thanks!
