seized hub, any ideas?..stupid rust...
im in the process of going five lug on my s14 base...i made a thread a while back on rust and parts seizing long before i got the parts...i wanted to be prepared for such an event...and i knew it would happen to me because low and behold; it did...i have everything necessary and i swapped the three corners fine...then i move on to the driver rear...everythings off...the hub wont come off the axle...simple as that...the last time i bap'd i was stuck in the same situation until i got a hub puller, it came right off...this times different...ive dont everything i could...
-calipers obviously off -hub bolts X4 are obviously off -hub nut is obviously off -backing of bearing is no longer sealed to the spindle/knuckle -i PB blaster'd the crap outta the axle and the back of the bearing -tried to hit the axle thru the assembly with a mallet just enough before crowning the axle -i got a hub puller; no -i got a 2/3 ton large puller; nope -i leveled the hub assembly with the axle by jacking it up and tried all of the above...nope the only thing this hub is holding onto is the splines....why? o why gawd?!! and i know it sounds simple...because it is! but for some reason, whenever i do stuff, its the simple things that are messed up...in fact both the hub puller and large puller started to shave the axle...so two broken craftsman rachets and a sea of metal shavings later; i had to slap everything together and now i am running the "19 lug convo." why wont it slide off? any ideas? i have the tools and the know-how, its just being very difficult...

I seriously thought that I would never get mine off. The only advice I can give is lots of Liquid Wrench and a few hammers.
Liberal application of Liquid Wrench and voilent application of hammer. See if you can get a screwdriver in there to and pry. Good luck! |

use a big hammer, if that doesnt work, use a bigger one. As I once heard from a very politically incorrect person, "hit it like its an ugly woman" though I do not condone hitting any women at all, thats pussy shit.

Im lucky, mine just needed a few taps to fall off. Why so rusty for a cali car?
Also the hub puller started to shave the axle? Thats crazy...might want to try dropping the diff so its easier to push out the axle... |
