Sr20det running lean under boost but drives fine HELP!!!
I have a S13 sr20det red top in my 96 s14
Just installed a brand new aem wideband and its leaning out under boost MODS Greddy FMIC Greddy BOV Hks mushroom intake BC spec2 exhaust Z32 fuel filter BeeR rev limiter set at 6.5k Tomei rocker stoppers Tomei fpr Aem wideband sensor mounted in test pipe 40inches away from turbo walbro 225 Car idles perfectly around 14.3-15.3 a/f Vaccum is at about 20 Cruising is around 14-16.5 depending on load Right when I hit boost a/f leans outs 17+ and at WOT it's around 15 I know this is bad but my car feels fine, it doesn't stall out doesn't break up under boost and it reaches 7psi boost I looked at all my spark plugs and they were all light brown like they should be but I replaced them anyway along with the fuel filter. I tried unplugging my MAF and my idle dropped a bit then went back to normal and a/f read a steady 10.0 then went back up to 14.5 when I plugged it back in. I'm not sure where to go from here I noticed a small leak on one of my fuel lines by the pcv valve and I replaced it but still no luck. Last edited by ShooterMcGavin; 05-26-2015 at 12:29 PM.. |

Boosting anything over stock, your SR is likely to lean out. The problem is not the FPR... It's that the 370cc injectors can't keep up with the fuel demand given the greater air volume at higher boost levels. A Walbro 255H.P. or AEM pump will definitely be worthwhile, but will not fix this (experience talking).
Even with the OEM injectors set to run at 100% duty cycle, they will not be able to keep up. My recommendation to you if you'd like to stay relatively low-budget is AEM fuel pump, 550cc injectors, Z32 MAFS and a JWT or Enthalpy tune. Do this and leaning out even at 16-17psi will be a thing of the past. Additionally, as mentioned above, wiring in a 12VDC relay directly to your pump & battery will guarantee you are getting max flow at all times- VERY important when adding additional boost into the equation... Mike

Appreciate the responses. Engine is stock boosting 7psi so it shouldn't be leaning out. I've already tried stock fpr, replace fuel lines, cleaned MAF. Going to try new O2 sensor, recirculating my bov, and test the wideband sensor again. My car pulls hard and doesn't break up under boost which is why I'm confused. Hopefully it's just a faulty sensor

Update. Hard wired fuel pump- no change
Boost leak test and fixed 2 leaks- no change Plugs are white and Wideband reads 15/16 at WOT but pulls hard to redline with no misfires or breakup. At idle wideband acts normal and I see 10/11 when reving but under load it's lean. Fuel pressure is at 48 with vac hooked up, I know that's high but it idles lean if I lower it |

yes, and other symptoms as well, it depends how long you drive with it.
it might start limiting to a certain rpm or just make you super rich at idle etc. Sent from a Highly Boosted Note 4!!!

Might be a faulty ecu.
What motor do you have black top(fins on head), or redtop? Try borrowing a friends ECU and see if there is any change. E5, and 62 ECU is kinda interchangeable. But you might just need the proper ecu. |

Redtop SR with #62 ecu. I'm going to try a new ecu after I replace a downpipe gasket. I have to have a leak somewhere because at these numbers my motor should run like crap but it doesn't but my plugs are still white !?

its ether going to be you MAF Sensor or your O2 sensor, that's if you don't have a problem with a vacuum leak or a semi-clogged injector or any other fuel related problem. I recommend you to unplug the O2 sensor or the MAF and then run the car around town. If it runs better, than I guess you pretty much found your problem. You can always clean you MAF sensor and your O2 sensor with special cleaners which is sold at autozone, it would not hurt to give them a try, unless you are completely broke.
