Trying to get some opinions on brands of lowering springs to get. Still have stock suspension on my s13 and want to lower the car since im getting rims pretty soon and did z32 brake conversion. Dont want to drop it too low since I dont want scrapping issues, aftermarket springs will give me drop I want. Dont want to get coilovers either since I dont like the bouncy ride, I dont drift or autocross with the s13 so just a bit increased handling is good enough for me. All input greatly appreciated

only reason we have bounce is cuz we got the stiffness turned up a lot better for handling. if i wanted and turned down my coilovers all the way ill be floating on the road. most people dont pick springs out correctly because they just go with cheapest and size they want. the lower you go the more stiff springs youll need to get that stock feeling.

read the custom lowering suspensions just to get an idea of what you should be looking for and what to ask manufactures if you want to do it right

Not all coilovers will bounce you around. If you build a set (Koni Yellows/Ground Control) it will be a tad stiffer than stock but will handle a lot better than most "brand" coilovers in the market. Just my 2 cents.

And since you've made up your mind about spring/struts, you may want to go with GR2's to replace your old crappy struts. As for brands, Eibach Spotlines are pretty much the only springs that I would get. They are mediocre & will give you the lowest drop. Tein is overpriced but if you can get it for cheap, they are also mediocre.

See where I'm going with lowering springs? They all suck compared to what's offered in coilover systems. You want handling benefits? Invest in reputable coilover dampers. You don't want a bouncy ride? Invest in coilover springs that not only work with the damper but help absorb the blemishes on the road. On the flip side, you won't see significant "performance" gain in doing so. Coilovers are manufactured and mass-developed to be used on the track.

I completely understand difference between coilovers and springs, I know u get a lot better handling with coilovers, im aware of that. Just asking opinions on what brands are good for lowering springs.

How do I not know what I'm talking about, you turn your coil overs down you get body roll and depending on how low you are you get tire frame rub but smooth over bumps. You turn them up, more stiff(bounce), significany less body roll improved handling.

I just installed a used koni yellow +stech on rear and gr2 on front. So far im happy with it. Total money spent $230.

if you're just going to DD your car and you just want to drop your ride, then you can get megan lowering springs. yeah yeah i know they're megans-but this isn't a debate over brand X vs. brand Y. they'll suit your needs just fine and they're reasonably priced. if you're so concerned with brand name get eibach or h&r or tein.

Umm...go back to driving honda. Who the fuck drives on single tap coilovers nowadays?!?! Almost everything in the market for an S-chassis (that isnt shit coilover atleast) are full tap coilovers. If you dont know what the fuck full tap means, you lower the damn car without touching the springs. The whole assembly would rotate into the perch so your spring rate (what makes the car bounce if its all out of whack) doesnt change.

Back to the OP, you want lowering springs...see if you can get some swift springs. Dont forget to get new struts/shocks, stock ones wont last a week with any lowering springs. Tokicos are decent, cheap setup.

Yeah I guess my Tein coilovers are shit coilovers right, and since "I drove hondas so much" that means I don't know what I'm talking about I guess...... 2 assumptions you've made that are wrong. If you change the damping force on the coilovers you change the compression and rebound of the coilover giving it the stiff feeling and feel all the road bumps or the "bounce"

Sweet thanks guys, appreciate the input. Yeah I might get coilovers eventually, but for right now lowering springs are good route for me.

Dumbass...did you read what I said??? You can get a 2 way height adjustment coilovers. You dont lower them on the springs so it doesnt change the compression/rebound on the springs. YES, your Teins fucking suck since they're only single tap. I'd take a set of Megan Racing full tap coilovers over your Tein single taps. Old school design simply kills it. I've had a set of old school Zeals that were single tap, fucking hated them since it would bounce around corners and made the rear feel like its floating.

Don't get gr2s. They're just replacements and won't last that long with the lowering springs.

I agree... I have the megan coils and agx shocks... theey are adjustable and work great for daily driving.

Im cheap im running kyb's, and i bought a cheap set of sleeve overs, i can adjust how high they are when i want to work on the car.

The issue with springs and shocks is wheel.theses parts are made by two companies that do not speak to each other. About 95% of all shock/struts are made to be oem replacements. That means they are made to run are stock height. Lowering springs are made to drop the car .5 to 1.5 inches max and still retain good ride. Anything more than a inche will kill your oem shocks/struts. Everyone in this whole thing that is zilvia know 1 inche does not look good at all. I nice drop on a 240 is tucking the rear and sitting level with the front tire. That's well over 1.5 inches. Springs do exits like tanabe an rsr and you can contact swift for a good drop. But the issue will still be that the shock/struct was never designs to work with such a big change.you can buy custom made to order koni Kyb bilstein but at that point it cost more than basic coilovers. And FYI You can purchase entry level dual adjustment coilovers and if you want a smooth ride you can all aftermarket softer springs made by swift
