power interface wires s13
im in a dilemma. i picked up an 89 s13 shell with a blown sr that im going to use as a daily driver. the vehicle was originally a sohc --->sr and now im making it a dohc. heres my prob, those two harnesses on the side of the battery box(grey and brown) have a few colors that match up but most dont. when i got the car both plugs were cut off.
does anyone know what colored wires on the car side are necessary to hook up, and what wires are necessary to hook up on the engine side? would the wires used in the sr swap be enough to get my car going? i just dont want to hook the wrong wires up and fry something. |

basically all the wire colors that match up if you use an sr "how to" are what you need. the only other thing you'll need to do is wire the thick blue/red striped wire (your coil pack power supply) and tap that into the thick black/red striped wire (ignition power). if you don't, then your coil packs will have no power supply, you will get no spark, and your car will not run.
you can do it Dave

If this is how you plan on wiring a Nissan then you need to work on Hondas.
Nissan wiring has nothing to do with colours. You have to trace out every single wire based on year, model, and options. Generally the battery box area wiring is consistent, but for the most part the body harness varies a lot even for the same year base on manual/auto, ABS, power equipment, etc. Get to know your single cam FSM really well. Nissan is a pain to work on. There is no other way. |

i guess i was being too optimistic >_<
if you mess up an s13 sr swap in an s13....you shouldn't be working on the car alone... if you do some research and learning and understand WHY you're doing this or doing that, then you'll have a lot less of a chance of messing stuff up. if you're just guessing and have no idea what you're doing, then you're gonna get yourself in trouble. best of luck Dave

i do know how to work on cars but its wiring that always kills me.
i have 4 harnesses from all diff years and options, so i figured id go by color, but i guess that was wrong. i did a few sohc to dohc swaps without the harnesses uncut but i didnt write down what went where since it was plug and play. im actually going from sr to dohc ka, not dohc ka to sr. |
