Your head gasket is blown, or you are burning coolant some other way (coolant line, water pump). Id guess head gasket though.

yup! my money goes on the head gasket. Did you ever replace them after you dropped the SR in? or did you rebuild it at all?

I took the head apart to get it timed and replaced the head gasket with a metal one.

some of my friends were thinking maybe timing might be the issue. would that cause it to make white gas smell smoke come out? also my exhaust is brand new, never used, i dunnno it that might cause an odor from the exhaust as well cause the paint and stickers or whatever might be burning off. any other thoughts would be great!

White smoke is usually very indicative of burning coolant. Timing is most likely not an issue. The exhaust is probably not the issue. How much smoke are we talkin? A little puff here and there, or a plume? How long ago was the head gasket replaced, and how much has the motor been used since then? Did this problem just start? Or did it happen ever since you had the head off?

If youre definitely getting white smoke, then youre definitely burning coolant. The task from then on would be locating where there is coolant leaking into the combustion chambers. The most common way for that to happen is the head gasket.

Change your oil. If youre burning coolant, the oil will probably be a milky color.

head gasket probably, or valve seals. Not sure on how the Sr is with the seals, but Just look as it for an opportunity for an upgrade.

when i take the radiator cap off and let the engine run, the coolant is like a milky white color. The Engine has been sitting for about 3 1/2 years in a storage bin. i bought i off a friend of mine. When i moved from Japan to Arkansas, i took the head off so i could fit it in a box. When i had the mechanic put the head back on to time it i had him put on the new head gasket. the white smoke started since i got the car running. As for the seals i duno how good they are but i do know the engine was running fine before it sat for those 3 years. only thing thats changed is the head gasket. I got the car running 2 days ago. so it hasnt been running very long.

Compression test the motor. If your head gasket is bad, youll have a low cylinder. Even though the head gasket is new, if the head bolts werent torqued to the right spec or in the proper sequence, it is very possible to have the gasket leak right from the get go.

Again, check the oil for a milky color.
