I'd go to a running specific shoe store. That way they can measure your feet and watch your stride and recommend a shoe that fits your needs.

^^^This...also, what kind of running do you do. Right now, I'm running on Bikila 5-fingers...not something I'd recommend to somebody because it takes alot of work to get used to if you run with a heavy foot. And its rare that I run further than 4 miles on them...if I have to run further than that, I'm slapping on my Asics Gel-nimbus 13.

Guys give him a break he just signed up probably today.
James bond dude... please read the rules of all thread sections before posting. Im not saying this is against rules because it is off topic. but i dont think this question is worth a thread. pick some shoes that you just find attractive and comfy. i can assure you asking other users for opinions on what you should buy isnt a great idea. So many people will have diff opinions/recommendations and youll actually find it harder to decide. You probably should have posted in the fashion thread or just think about it for awhile then decide.

If money is truly "no issue," then you would do this and get some custom-fit shit. Otherwise, the BEST design was that of whatever being you believe created you, so you should go with Vibram's 5 Fingers if you MUST have an off-the-shelf solution. In continued level of inferiority, go with some spongy overcushioned Nike shit... The only shoes you should buy from Nike are for casual and basketball use.

I can understand that, wouldn't want something everyone else has anyway. It's not like they are good or anything, I bet "everyone" wearing them must think they suck too!

Free runs are horrible running shoes. I have a pair and I love them for walking around and doing nothing in. Once you try to run or do anything quickly in them you will know what I mean. Just an FYI because I see a lot of people who get those for stuff like running when they aren't the least bit supportive.

Ohhhh, and for everyone that thinks vibrams are sooo good, I understand people think that since we were created without shoes that's the best way, but we've been walking around in shoes for thousands of years and our bodies/feet have adapted to the use of shoes.

Running is what i do and let me just say...
There is no way to answer this question really. Everybody's feet are different so what may be good for you may suck for someone else. Do you pronate? Supinate? Do you have high arches? Low arches? Flat feet? Are your feet wide or narrow? What type of running are you doing? The list goes on... There's a lot more to running than what most people are aware of. If you have a RoadRunner shoe store or something like that near you, i would suggest going there and getting your feet/running patterns analyzed. Then you'll know what type of shoe would be best suited for you. |

Here's a thread I started a while back, plenty of good information in there. Look up username Wagdatto, he works at a running store and has plenty of good info. Currently I'm using New Balance Minimus Trails, I'm on my second pair and absolutely love them. I've had 4 pair of vibram five fingers from the KSO's to the Bikila's and they are awesome shoes, my only problem is in between two of my toes it causes a really sharp pressure point so running for more then a few miles hurts like a bitch. If you're staying away from VFF's because everyone has them, that has got to be the dumbest reason I've ever heard of. If alot of people are using something it might be worth looking into why theyre using them versus being worried about how trendy you are/are not. |

I have been to a running specific store and bought a shoe named Brooks. I hated them! They were too hard on my feet and hurt my ankles and knees. The three or four Asics that I have bought over the last two years have served me really well.
I have these right now. Amazon.com: ASICS Men's GT-2150 Running Shoe: Shoes I run on flat ground, treadmill, mountain trails, etc. The furthest I have run in one sitting with these shoes is about 8 miles. Feet never felt better. Also have played a few games of basketball in them as well. |

funny thing.
I have been through a few asics and new balance. They are good shoes, but I have giant feet. I also have an awkward stride because I change it subconsiously mid stride sometimes. One day I was late for school (college) and had to run. I threw on my puma driving shoes because I was in a hurry. 4 years later I still run, play tennis, and spar in them. Dunno if that will help. I do say of all the specifics, I love asics, they come the closest to what I need out of a shoe for running. Also, go to a running store. There is info about your stride and step pattern that you need to know to better help your selection.

Yeah... go get fitted at a running store. But keep a few things in mind if/when you guys go there...
PS. I work at a major running shoe store... you can find our ads in magazines across the country. Anyway, we (running shoe store employees) are here to help you. The biggest reason I work there is because I truly enjoy seeing you (the customer) get the right thing. If I don't think you need an insert, or a $200 shoe, I won't recommend it. I'm not getting paid on commission, so I'm truly trying to help a brother (or sister) out. The hardest thing about my job (besides assholes that won't let me finish a thought) is the first time you come in. Until I sell you something THAT I RECOMMEND, I don't know how it's going to work out for you. We offer a GREAT return policy. We'll let you run in them in the mud and rain for TWO FUCKING MONTHS and come back if there's something you don't like about that pair. Don't abuse the policy, mind you, but run in the shoe for a few weeks, THEN come back and let us know what is and isn't working. If you use the shoe once, then come back and say "I hate it, it didn't work, it hurt my foot/ankle/groin/prostate" and don't elaborate on the issues you're having, you aren't helping me to help you. Best case scenario, like yesterday at work for me, a lady came back in, said this pair was fine except that my toes went to sleep and I had some pain on the ball of my foot after about 2 miles. Perfect, that tells me we need more support and a wider toe box or a longer shoe... or both. I can then explain why the shoe PROBABLY did these things, we can try something slightly better for her in the ways that she needs, and take it from there. Anyway, long story short... go get properly fitted for shoes. If you're interested in running in stupid barefoot shoes, let the salesperson know, and ask what their opinion on them FOR YOU would be. Don't be retarded... if you're serious about running, you'd be lucky to just "wing it" and actually end up with something that works well for you. Personally, I use the New Balance Minimus Trail, and have a pair of the Minimus Road in the rainbow color cuz they're dope as fuck and they both fit my awkwardly wide ass feet. I also have a pair of VFF KSO's that I hate. I wore them for about a month with no problems, until I randomly got like 8 blisters at once on a totally normal run. My feet are too wide/thick (lol) to fit a pair of toe socks in them. My next shoe will be a pair of Minimus Zero Trails. I also have a pair of Saucony Hattori's that don't fit me well... a pair of Altra Instincts that I don't like, a pair of Brooks Ghost for the days I need a typical shoe.. OH!!!! I just got a pair of the Free Run+ 3's the other day!! They don't launch for another month, I think, but those of you who like the 2's will really like these!! They're lighter, they have a slightly wider fitting toe box, the sole is hot-knifed rather than molded with the flex grooves, which makes the grooves fit tighter together, and they're slightly softer. The upper has a very nice update, too, with the interactive flywire like you get on the Lunarglide+ 3's, so it fits against the foot really well. No more dual layer overlays that are completely unnecessary like the Free 2's... Price increased to $100, though... sooooorrrryyyy! Nike fans will LOVE next year's new shoes... The uppers are FUCKING INSANE!! One piece KNIT upper with next-to-no waste, and different knitting "tightness" for different structure points. The uppers weigh next to nothing. It's 3:30 and I've been drinking, please excuse any typos and run on sentences. |
