Oops, sorry for the typo I meant to post "180sx" not "190sx" lol

Now that the wiring issues of these clusters has been solved, it's time to take it to the next level. Has anyone done a kph to mph calibration on one of these clusters?

Bit of an old thread I know, but just to post some info out there.

Took apart my gauge cluster and found out the speedometer doesn't resemble neither the regular S13 clusters we're accustomed too nor the S14 speedometer.

There isn't a speed adjustment potentiometer or solder points resembling those found on the S14 speedometer.

Possibly some of the solder points on the 180SX Kouki speedometer could be used to convert from km/h to mph, but I'm not savvy enough to figure it out.

Best, and possibly easiest, option in my opinion is to go with the Dakota Digital Universal Speedometer Signal Interface:

I'll more than likely be purchasing one at the end of the month if I can't figure out how to convert to mph for cheaper.

I remember doing mine last year. It was pretty easy, just took a couple of trials to get it right. I think I am off by about 1-2 mph at 60. The line of resistors work by a factor of 2. Each one adjust it 1/2 of the next (ie, first my drop it 50%, the next 25%).

I just soldered mine up it took twice to get it completely right. I would get an initial mph vs rpm on a few runs, the more points on the plot, the better reference you will have if you are on.

The only thing I have to do now is calibrate the odometer to track miles instead of km. Not a big deal right now, because she's been in storage for the past 7 months while I'm overseas, and I won't be driving her too much in the next 7-8 months because my next project is this.

I always thought once you get the jdm gauge cluster your ok. Didn't know it was soldering involve. Then again....

I believe you're talking about the S14 gauge cluster. This thread is about the 180SX Kouki gauge cluster.

In regards to the 180SX/Silvia clusters in Zenki/Chuki models, yes. They are plug and play.

The 180SX Kouki is not as the harness and plugs are different.
