hmm cut springs...

alrighit long story short, I wanna cut my rear springs, just 1 coil. and just the rears. They are sportline springs, so the tops are closer together than the bottom, so will i be okay with just 1 coil and should i cut from the top or bottom? also i plan on flatting the one side so it will seat correctly.

I've done it with sportlines. Safe to assume that you got new shocks on since sportlines would have blown your stock shocks a long time ago. I cut a full coil on both fronts and rears, still wasnt that low to be honest.

Everybody hates

But I've actually had some cut RSR springs on KYB struts and it rode great. They were cut one in the front and two in the back.

driving on cut springs is skechy as shit.

obviously coils are the way to go but im guessing your cheaping out on the lowering... lower springs are really not that expencive and you should deff just get those with a 2" drop or something

but if you reallllly feel to cheap to get those then cut the top coil so the bottom coil will fit properly on the base of the strut and the skechy side can shove itself in to the bushing up top

^ ^ ^ ^ He's totally right.

Honestly, going with lowering springs is a MUCH better alternative than simply cutting springs. They're cheaper than coils and will give you better results than cut springs.

Plus it isnt sketchy. Just sayin.

no lowering springs are low enough. i had intrax supposedly 2.5 drop and front looked way higher than back. i wanted to cut two coils. but never did got coils. my uncle had cut springs_ 2 coils and was not bouncy at all.

Oh no. Heating is worse. It's messes with the structure of the spring and it can snap

Cut springs are a terrible idea, even if your car sits as low as you would like its going to bottom out every single time you hit a road seam

save $500 and buy a used set of tein basics or something...

this is why people laugh at 240 owners

Jeez, people are fucking retards. He's cutting aftermarket springs to make them lower. As long as he's using fresh shocks, the springs shouldnt fucking blow the shocks and make them bounce like a fucking low rider. He's not cutting the stock spring on the same original 200k miles shocks.

I mean I buy real parts. But I did go through cut loading springs. So we don't do to cheap out. I have a brand new set if fortune autos in my room with swift springs. So I'm not afraid to spend money. But hey if he wants more low for free do it

I don't think that would be wise not because it's just unsafe but it's bound to burst your shocks because they'll be going past their range of motion every bump and slamming against themselves. also the spring will corrode a lot faster unless you somehow got them re coated... that's just what i've learned and i'm sticking to it lol

I believe you may be mistaken

When you cut springs you make them stiffer actually, the spring constant K changes.. so yes you will bounce slightly less, but pretty insignificantly. If you heat it up to cut it at all it may actually be less stiff than the original.

if the spring is designed to compress say.. 4 inches. It will now compress the same distance and possibly more, as the shock is traveling a different length now as well. The shock is designed to dampen at the original ride height. The spring was designed for the original spring length and original spring ends.

The end of the springs is normally chamfered to sit nicely in the strut, cut springs dont have that. How can you look at the end of a spring and then think you can just cut it and it will work the same?

It will be detrimental to the handling of the car. If you are ok with that to get one inch lower, then go ahead

Yeah I would trust those less then cut springs. Just go buy real coilovers and be done with it.

Fuck it, cuz none of us ever done this shit back when there were no aftermarket support for these cars. Look, we all blew our fucking tokico/koni yellow shocks after we all cut tall ass Eibach springs back in the days!!! I didnt run that fucking car that way for 5 yrs before I can actually get coilovers, hell, I didnt even drive that car hard with cut aftermarket springs and aftermarket shocks, so fuck my input...

I love how everybody got a 2cent in because thats what they've read from HT, but have never had any personal experience with this shit. Half these morons still still think running stiff ass coilovers are the best setup on these cars vs going with custom Koni shocks and GC coilover sleeves.
