changing spring rates Tein FLEX
Hi,
I got a Tein Flex on my S13 but the springs are way to soft. The tyre is rubbing on the inner fender wall as soon I turn fast into Corners. From what I've found the Springrates are 5/4 or 7/7. Is there any way to find out what spring rates I've got? front says: V050-LD4 rears: M040-LD3 I'm considering to mount springs from superdrift (10/8) in the fronts. Did someone did this before and how it drives? Would I need a revalve? :/ Last edited by a13x.; 04-30-2014 at 02:36 PM.. |

I didnt really like the flex but it sounds like not only a spring rate issue but they also sound as if they are blown. I would have them rebuilt completely and if i recall correctly tein offers a rebuild service. I think mine were 6/4 my spring rates now on my powered by max coils ar 12/10 but this is on a S14 not a 13. Personally I would consider different coils but if you like them just go ahead and send them to be rebuilt because if you put a spring rate on them that the dampers cant handle they may blow.
Edit: Yes you will need a revalve. If you have them revalved have them revalved for a spring rate 2 higher than the ones you are putting on them EXAMPLE if you want a 12k spring have the dampers valved for a 14k spring |

I expected something like that
the Flex is like new and was already installed in the car. So I thought I'm just fine with it. I really like how it handles but it seems like its not made for driving low lol. |

theyre not from what it felt like on my car. I switched to powered by max coils and it felt much better.

After reading all of the posts here, a couple of solutions that weren't mentioned:
1.) Ever thought of raising the car? You found out the hard way and it's evident after purchasing while coming to find that you're rubbing. --Assuming you don't have suspension correcting suspension bits, raising the car will aid the car's handling more than your current/desired height. Now if you have raised the car and the dampers still compress and rub or if you did not want to raise the car, here's a cheap (maybe free) alternative: 2.) A large hammer. Surprised nobody has suggested this. --This option is if you really don't want the car to rub while wanting your dampers to be utilized for its intended purpose, the only way to go from there is to make room. Based on the picture you post, you may want to take this cheap route (assuming you own a big ass hammer) If you raised your car and/or if you chose to hammer the inner fenders/tubs out, you could even lower the car back down to your current height and see if it rubs. It shouldn't. Worth noting: With all the free space just know that if you decide to remove a collar or two, you may find yourself back to needing more space. Who needs inner fenders anyway? The German air helps cool the engine bay and helps get water and dirt in for cooling--like elephants in the safari. Cool, huh? |

Usually, you can go up or down 1 KG for spring rate without having to revalve. Going from 5/4 to 10/8, yah, not happening. Those spring will blow those shocks. There's not even a whole lot of off the shelf coilovers at those spring rates.

Best solution seems to be buy made in China/Taiwan coils since they go super low. Who cares about ride quality and handling when your car is super low for under $1000 bux?
