SR20 S14 gear ratio changes Vs. US 5sp

Here is my problem, I have a Jap S14 200sx turbo and I do alot of long distance traveling, when at 70-75mph im already at 3000rpm in 5th which isnt to bad if there is traffic, most of the time on the open road i travel at 140-150mph for 3-4 hours at a time and staying at 6000rpm 6500rpm it pretty much sux when it comes to the fuel pump time and at $80US to fill the tank here in africa it gets a bit sucky... but when you travel 2000-3000 miles a week (most of the time couring parts) its needed.

I dont want to change my diff ratio as i think 1st is already a bit on the tall side, but wanted to know if the KA has the same gear ratio's and if it has a longer 5th are the gear sets or part of the gear sets swapable? Ive got a few quotes for a custom set of helical's made to lower the 5th gear but i cant face spending that amount of money just yet,

1-4 are the same, 5th is slightly different, .838 vs .759.

different car like what? I used a friends S4 audi and it could hardly stay at 150 for more than 20 minutes before overheating, and ive used one of the guys who ownes the company's newer M3's which did the same thing. I dont know if its the stock oil cooler on my S14 that lets it run just that tiny bit cooler when staying up high in the rev range, all I know is that no one can talk smack about the newer SSAC manifolds cracking because I cracked 2 stock manifolds within 5 000miles of eachother and have had this one on for 4 months now with no problems.

Anyways, back to topic
.838 (SR) vs .759 (KA) ???

If that is right? and they are swapable atleast that will make a few hundered RPM difference,

u could swap ur final drive out for a taller one. im putting a j30 diff in mine for the 3.9:1 ratio (and cause i need an lsd and it was cheap, of course). although i dont think this would make a big difference, it would help and be a bit easier than swapping fifth gears.

he said he doesnt want to swap final drive earlier. To poster, I am faced with the same predicament.....I need a taller 5th in the tranny, but want to go taller than SR or KA 5th. I have 4:36 out back. 75-80 Im at 4k in 5th.....

you really hold that thing pegged for 3-4 hours at a time.....6500rpms all the way. Thats awsome if you do, and makes me feel better about the 5K rpm 3 hour sprints my car sometimes sees.

Yeah the SR seems to have no problems sticking up at 6000-6500rpm, obviously every now and then I slow to like 100mph to pass people and wait for trucks to get out the way and so on but then its a sprint back up to 150-155 in high boost at 1.1bar then back into low boost trying to keep it under zero manifold presure.

I wonder if any of the other nissan small trucks with large diff ratio's would have a swapable 5th gear set, also the fact i get a little grind every time i go into 5th so the syncro's are probably a bit wanked

Guess its time to find some scrap yards once i get a decent job

Heh, just done blow a radiator hose at 6500rpm, it pumped my engine dry in about 10 seconds, luckly i have a digital temp gauge for my fans that started screeming, quick easy fix...

Aparently the nissan 2.7L trucks here use almost identical tran's and the guy i know at the nissan garage said they have a realy low 5th gear ratio, im going to see if i can find a scrap yard unit.

Anyone there have a destroyed KA 5sp with good 5th gear's?
