Powertune Australia R32 GTR in the build
I'd like to share with you fellow Nissan enthusiasts my BNR32. The r32 gtr has always appealed to me as a timeless shape, so when a cheap one came up i thought it'd be a good base for a restoration into a clean quick street car. Since Powertune built my r34 gtr with great results, i was more than happy to leave this one in their hands too.
Engine internals were unknown when i bought it but i was told by the previous owner it was built/forged at some stage of its life. The car didn't have an extended sump or upgraded oil pump so i knew once we turned the power up it would be a matter of time before something let go. The previous setup in the car was a twin high mount Trust td05 turbo kit with a Haltech e11v2 ecu with a single Bosch 044 pump and supporting mods. Power at this stage on 98octane fuel was 320kw/430hp @ wheels which felt very lazy but came on like a hammer. I decided not long after to ditch the Haltech e11v2 ecu for a newer Haltech Platinum Pro ecu with retune on e85 fuel. This meant i also had to upgrade the fuel system. Bigger injectors and a Powertune twin in-tank setup was installed. On the first few runs the clutch started slipping on the dyno with more power. At this stage since i upgraded the r34 gtr car with a Holinger sequential and a new Quad plate to suit the bigger spline, i had the standard Getrag 6 speed and Quad plate clutch laying around. A couple of days passed and the r32 was back on the dyno again. The car pulled 380kw / 510hp @ wheels. I drove it around on this power for awhile and really hated how laggy the car was for the street. I had the opportunity to drive an r33 gtr that Powertune had just completed for another customer and absolutely loved the power band and how the whole car drove. The decision was made to ditch the twins for a moderate single Precision turbo. Precision Turbo and manifold being installed. At the same time i had some custom fab work done in the bay to make things a little more tidy. Engine bay complete, I've set it up similar to the r34 gtr. Custom catch can, windscreen washer bottle, power steering tank. With this current tune the turbo is nearly maxed out. Boost is from 4100 to 8500rpm. The subject of burnouts came up and next thing u know we are pulling the fuse out of the 32 gtr to put it into rwd. Long story short… Smoked up the street, then the engine smoked itself. lol. So since the engine had to come out, i thought it'd be a good idea to send it off to the paint shop. I also chased up a set of n1 side skirts, n1 bonnet lip, n1 boot lip and optional rear pods to throw on at the same time. Stripped and Preparing the car for paint I found these rare Nismo LMgt1's in 18x10 +20 that i got out of japan and decided to get refurbished. Re-polished lips, centres painted in the same colour as the car, updated nismo stickers and chromed outer bolts. Before After The colour i have chose is called "Balloon White" which is off the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. In the oven the colour looks really creamy which it won't be in the sunlight. Engine bay Exterior in the oven In the Panel shop Bodywork nearly complete After pulling the engine down it revealed it had spun a bearing. It had HKS pistons and some aftermarket cams that we couldn't find any markings on. The rest was standard. Now the plan was to replicate the r34 rb28 engine since it was proven to work. But then… we decided to go a different route. Stay tuned. Covers wrinkle painted black and linished writing
