It seems as though it's going to be raining this sunday. I haven't really gotten much of a chance to run the Victos in the rain since for some reason I've been running STS at every rain event.....

My victos still have some visible tread left, although not much. I'm guessing if there's no standing water I should just run the victos, and if it's a downpour run my street tires?? Just looking to get some opinion on which tires would be best to run. If in doubt I COULD run some Azenis......

Hmm, last year I autox'ed in a downpour with my azenis. They seemed to stick pretty well and several other drivers were using them. I really have no basis of comparison though, since the Falkens are the only tires I've raced on wet pavement with. This was on a stock S14 too.

Ace, the general consensus up north here is:
- No accumulation, Victo
- Downpour -> Up to you. People here run with Victo or street... But I would run with street tires.

Tell me what you think about the Victoracers... Might get a set. I still haven't bought my race tires.

I would run streets if the surface is at all like our two ball parks when wet in the bay area. So much standing water....ugh.

We had one site where it was flat concrete with good drainage, everywhere else was ballpark parking lot concrete IE: rough and poor drainage.

Everyone paid dearly for trying to run R compounds at the ball parks. GT2 spinning in the first corner always brings a smile to my face.

The victoracers are great! I've run so many events on them and they're still holding up well. I'm probably going to end up getting another set, albeit a bit wider next time around.

I'm still hesitating...

Victoracers = better tire in dry / lower cost
A032R = better in rain / better contingency plan...

if you are going to season standings I think being consistant is overall more usefull. Go with the safer tires imo

victoracers with tread showing will work fine in wet conditions. For standing water the falken azenis or better yet Hoosier Dirt stockers are the way to go.

the contigency awards are like this:

Hoosier:
National tour win = 2 free tires
National championship win = 4 free tires

Kumho:
National Tour
win = $150 (5 or more competitors)
2nd = $75
3rd = $50

National Championship
win = $500
2nd = $250
3rd = $125

These are the standard payouts for every class. Street Mod does not have it's own specific sponsored awards. Kumho has payouts for fewer competitors at the Tour level. Check out the company websites under motorsports for more contingency info, application forms, and to order the required decals.

Actually, we have a club contingency with Yokohama.

Same class, people running Yokohamas:
1rst overall: 4 new tires (your choice of size and tire)
2nd overall: 2 new tires
3rd overall: 100$cdn in Yokohama tires

That means that if after a season, I finish 3rd but I am 1rst within people in my class running on Yokohamas, I get 4 tires free!

That is the interesting part. We also get our share of cooler weather and rain... Much more that the average Californian!

That's great. Is that for your local club or for the Canadian national club? Sounds like a really good deal, especially since you're only competing against other cars using Yokohamas. I'm afraid you wouldn't have much luck trying to beat cars using hoosiers or kumhos. The yokohamas don't have the grip of these tires.

Local club... Kind of a sponsorship deal...

And as for Yokohamas not competing, I've seen people win street prepared with Yokohamas... But I do know that Kumhos and Hoosiers offer more traction. I haven't bought the tires yet... Still debating this in my head.

Perhaps the person that won on yokohamas simply outdrove the others. Test equal drivers in equal cars and the yokohamas will lose. And they cost more. Sponsorship is a good thing, though. If you don't intend to travel much and run up against hoosier and kumho drivers then yokos might be a better solution for you.

Most people running in my class run Kumhos and Hoosiers.... Like I said, I am still debating this. One thing is for sure: I cannot afford Hoosiers.

And up north, Yokos are 70$C more for 4 tires... Basically the same price.
