help with timing chain jumping out of place?
my upper and lower timing chain have both seem to jump a few teeth out of its place due to a faulty tensioner. the only problem now is that nothing its lined up. so i don't know where to start to position the lower timing chain. is there any way to find out if the engine is on compression stroke without anything attach (timing chains, etc) except the harmonic balancer. i would appreciate it if anyone with experience would give a some answers.

what motor? and pull the 1st spark plug and put a comppresion tester on it. when u see pressure building keepy turning the crank till its on your tdc mark whatever motor you have. then that piston is tdc. then make ur own marks using a marker

I did this on an SR. I basically cranked the change without the tensioner and obviously it jumped... BUT it doesn't jump as much as you thinkg.... Usually the the cam that the tensioner is closests to jumps, the other side won't because of the crank pulley putting tension on that side.
I believe the tensioner is on the intake side? I dunno not a KA guy, but start with that side getting the right links between.... I think that works best, it did on mine.

ok thanks guys for the help. so i tried and got the cam lobes on cylinder 1 facing away from each other. and put the chain and tensioner back on while the crank pulley was set at tdc. so after putting everything together i try to crank the engine from the front pulley and it turns maybe a quarter of a turn and it locks. lol. im so confused. i even tried to remove the chain again and bring it back to tdc another 360 degrees and still the same problem. anything?? some help would be appreciated. thank you

oh shit i found the problem. the marks on the crank pulley are not corrresponding with the cylinders. when piston #1 is on compression stroke, the marks on the crank pulley are no where near the pin. how can this be? i thought the pulley was fixed with the crankshaft?????? any smart people out there that can help?
