Hairline camshaft fracture. Quick question
I tried searching.
My stock intake cam has a crack at the dowel pin. I have another stock cam to replace it with. Can I simply swap it over without line bore, messing with cam caps, messing with shims. Simply just put it in?? |

As long as the journals of the cam look good, I don't see why not.

Its simple, go buy yourself some feeler gauges. Check every valve and shim to the cam shaft in the head now. Replace said camshaft with cam shaft#2. Recheck valves and shims. If theres a difference then youll be re-shimming the head. At least this way youll get a baseline of what you had and what you have now.
You wont need to align hone for the new cams. |

As long as your stock hydraulic lifters are good the difference should be so minimal they will compensate for the difference |

Perhaps you're tripping, because you're wrong. GTI-Rs are solid lifter SR20DET's...
