The Misfit........dd/track/fun build
Well I've been a lurker here for a while but I figured I'd finally make an intro and build thread of sorts.
Here's some past projects that have any significance (there's been plenty more lol)... Circa 2003, my 93 Civic hb. Made 582whp and ran a best of 11.88 @ 133 on drag radials. more pics/info here... My old 582hp EG..... back in the day :tear: - Honda-Tech Circa 2005, my 91 S13. Made 519whp and ran a best of 11.30 @ 129 on drag radials. Stock VG30dett swap with a custom single T61 setup I built. Fully shaved/tucked bay with 90 degree brake setup under the dash. and with SR before I sold it... Circa 2006-present, my friends S14. Put the VG swap in it. 2007-2010, my S2000. Never dyno'd but estimated around 475whp. Ran a best of 12.05 @ 122 stock motor on e85 w/ my own custom turbo setup. build thread here... ...GT30 / S2000 build... - Honda-Tech 2010, 1991 EF autox build. pic thread here... My Evening With A 20 Year-Old Redhead - Honda-Tech

And now the S14 that I bought last year off of a friend. It already had a stock S14 SR swap in it and I somehow managed to get the car to run a 12.54 @ 112 on Fuzion 205/50/16 tires.
YouTube - Muncie RPM day This is all copied from a local private forum so if the text doesn't make sense that is why Here it is how I bought it... So far all I've done is ditched the pillar gauge mount and oil pressure gauge, moved the boost gauge, ditched the big muffler and re-ran the wiring harness a little. Oh and blew off an i/c pipe getting on the highway the other day lol! Probly won't do much for a little while but luckily it's a blast like it is right now! __________________________________________________ _________________ Well got tired of looking at the greenish grey floormats that didn't match anything in the interior. They were in great shape just ugly... So I bought 2 boxes of this... Put it in a tub with hot water... And made them look purty Muy bueno! __________________________________________________ __________________ Finally some real mods are starting to come in for this thing, well some of them are real mods  Brand new radio trim piece, old one was all busted. Pretty common on these cars... AEM analog wideband. Wanted one of these ever since I seen them come out. Love it! The 'factory tune' is pretty 'interesting' on this car... Stance GR+ coilovers. First set of coilovers I've bought that weren't Teins. They just didn't have what I was after for this car without spending alot of money. Spring rates are 8k front 6k rear Mmmmm inverted mono tube.... And couldn't get away without more ricer mods. Red LEDs for the gauge cluster, HVAC and dome light. Also not pictured, the new intercooler setup I am building for this car. I'll post pics when I get going on that hopefully this weekend. The funny thing is the intercooler is about half the size of whats on there :?

Got the suspension on last night and all I can say is I freaking love it! Drove to Dayton today and the ride quality was perfect! Feels like a real car now lol!
Got most of the intercooler setup done tonight. The whole idea was to tuck the i/c up by the radiator, but not blocking it completely, and run as short of piping as possible. And I'm going to run a OEM fan and shroud which will pull air through both the i/c and radiator constantly. Hoping to get a little more response out of this too but not sure how much earlier the spool can get. Did a baseline pull from 2k rpm in 3rd and on low boost it would hit peak boost at 3200rpm lol. So we'll see how that goes when it's all done. Anyways, here's some pics... Greddy FMIC setup with a couple miles of piping... See what I mean! New setup Just gotta weld on the BOV flange and IACV tube and clamp it all together and she's done. __________________________________________________ __________________ Well got some more suspension goodies and finally got some tires from a tire store that would let me run them stretched lol. Went with Circuit Sports stuff... Rear toe rods... for adjusting....toe... Front tension rods for adjusting caster... Rear upper control arms for adjusting camber... Went with the same tires I had on the S2000 since they grip decent and have a nice sidewall for clearance. They are Sumitomo HTR Z III's 225/40/18 & 245/40/18. Wheels are 18x9.5 +12 & 18/10.5 +15... __________________________________________________ ___________________ Well spent the day pounding on fenders and adjusting ride height about a million times as well as getting the rest of the alignment dialed in. Had to do the typical harness reroute on the drivers side... before... after... Sneak peek till I get some real shots... __________________________________________________ __________________ Real pics as promised... Well it's that time of year again so I decided to jump headfirst into some wiring just like last year. My main goal was to get the big honkin' fusebox out of the engine bay and out of site. Mainly because I'm going to need the room to clearance something (to be shown later). I also redid/cleaned up the whole engine harness a couple weeks ago but didn't take any pics.
Crappy pics but here's the engine harness loomed with expandable braided sleeving and heat shrink. LOTS of depinning/repinning plugs, fun stuff! Having flashbacks Sans fusebox and radiator The fusebox housing gutted Managed to separate all the fuse and relay wiring from the headlight/signal stuff with only having to cut and lengthen 3 wires, kickass! Looks like my car threw up... Stuff staying up front This is whats left going up front. Turns out my front fenders weren't what was rubbing up front. Note the polished sections of the inner fender and upper frame rail  The price of being low lol! __________________________________________________ ___________________ Well, work continues... New location for the underhood fuse box, where the airbag used to be. I thought I took a pic with the cover on but must not have. It will pop right on/off for easy access... Gotta get this thing outta the way so I can do some work... I think that's the turbo... Nastyness. __________________________________________________ __________________ My chopper fender arrived today. Going to tub the front (WTF RWD!?!) and notch the upper frame rails for tire clearance since I likes them Lowriders! Chopped it in half.. And here's what I'm looking to accomplish... I know it seem retarded doing just the front half of the inner fenders but with the way the caster works the room is need up front but not in the back. __________________________________________________ __________________ Got a little crazy tonight. I call this the point of no return On the ground tire clearance I had. Keep in mind that's with no motor in the car now. __________________________________________________ __________________ Widened the fender... Tacked it in place... Checked clearance at the angle where the wheel requires the most room... Made a ghetto sheet metal brake with a piece of all thread (for rounded corner) and a piece of wood in the vise... Trimmed up the piece and tacked it in place...

Threw the side piece together, about didn't have enough metal left...
I'm pretty amazed at how sturdy this is already just tacked up. I was worried about using 22 gauge, thought it'd be too thin. This part is going to be tricky. It's hard to tell in the pics but the filler piece that I have left to do has two totally different angles to jive up with. I'll figure it out once I get some more metal... Here's under the tub, front of the shock tower. What I have to hack out still... Since I can copy the pass. side for the drivers side I went ahead and got this mess outta the way. Got some fab work to do in this area as well... __________________________________________________ __________________ Spent about an hour or so tonight filling in the rest of the tub. Still got some odds and ends left to do on it but the hard part is done, on this side lol. __________________________________________________ __________________ Getting a little closer. The drivers side was a little easier since I kinda had what I was doing figured out and could just copy the other side. Have already went through a whole spool of welding wire. __________________________________________________ __________________ Latest batch of pics, could only get a couple before the camera died... Drivers side pretty much done. Upper frame rail is notched, forgot to get a pic of the passenger side. This is what it used to look like... a little stitch welding... Now I need to decide if/what holes I want to fill in, might just leave it as is... then it's seam seal and bondo time! And I need to settle on a color soon too... [/b] __________________________________________________ __________________ Finished up filling a couple more spots and undercoated the fronts with 3m rubberized undercoating... Also started on some of the body work... __________________________________________________ __________________ Got everything bondo'd and seam sealed... Forgot I needed something to get fresh air to the motor, more on this thing later... light coat of primer till I get everything else ready... __________________________________________________ __________________ Finally got some paint laid tonight. Probly going to throw another coat on it tomorrow. It's single stage, Honda Championship White from the Integra Type R. Gotta keep it real

Something a little different, ever seen heat shrink hose clamps? I've always seen these in Jegs catalogs and was always curious about them. Did some research a couple months back and stumbled on a vid that made me feel like I had to try them...
The vid. It's really interesting if you can stay awake... YouTube - Gates PowerGrip SB Clamps & Blue Stripe® Coolant Hose Meet my new ball joint pin (the 3/4" bolt) that will be the basis of my front roll center correction. More on this when the fab work starts... And final look for the paint job. No flash... with flash... Got some parts on the way so the fun is really about to begin! __________________________________________________ __________________ Got some more stuff in today. Ordered from Pit Stop USA | Your Auto Racing Parts Superstore - Racing Parts/ Racing Suit & Helmets Tuesday night and had a box on my porch when I got home at 3:00 today so thumbs up to them! They were the ONLY place on the net that I could find that sells weld-in monoball/heim joint carriers. Here's what's going on up front... Going to fiddle with the spacing once everything is back together and dial out bump steer at the same time Here's the goods... Basically the idea is to lower the ball joint pivot point down to gain back some of the suspension geometry or 'roll center'. In other words, when you lower a car the lower control arms angle up giving up leverage causing the car to roll easier, this is what I like to call "unlowering" my car. Some reassembly going on... __________________________________________________ __________________ Busted some ass and did some work tonight! First this stuff was waiting for me when I got home from work... flywheel insert for the Fidanza I got off of Cole since he killed it good, urethane steering rack bushings, brake line 'P' clips and Summit hooked it up with a Schick razor for my purchase. They must know I hardly shave  Nissan S14 SR20 fan shroud and radiator hoses... And a Mishimoto radiator. I always swore I'd never buy anything with a stupid name like that but they have a good reputation, are cheap, and have an awesome warranty program! Quality looks great for the price too! So after playing with all that stuff I got to work. Put the flywheel insert in and tq'd it, put the flywheel on and tq'd it, sanded the glaze off of the clutch disc and pp (Spec Stage 2 that was already in the car) and installed/tq'd it and then put the tranny back on the motor after cleaning and regreasing the necessary areas. Then I loaded it up in the truck, went to Advance Auto to pick up some brake parts cleaner and headed to the car wash to hose everything down. Then got home, unloaded it with the hoist. Put on the crossmembers and slid it under the car. After some fun I got it up in there, first time I've ever put a motor in from the bottom lol! Damn I'm tired. __________________________________________________ __________________ Well after some serious thinking I couldn't come up with a good place to put a power steering reservoir with tubs, i/c pipe, air filter and fan shroud in the way. So staring at the empty hole where the a/c compressor would normally sit I said screw it, I'm moving the p/s pump down there and putting the reservoir above it! My little Hobart champed it up on this stuff! Old p/s pump and reservoir location for reference... New home... Ran outta mig wire again so that's where I stopped for the night. The horizontal alignment is perfect but the vertical is a hair off, nothing that can't be easily fixed by offsetting one of the mount holes a little. Just gotta make up something for the tensioner bracket and figure out the belt size and it'll be done.

i'm liking the p/s bracket idea. Question though not trying to demean you or anything but are you gonna trim the bottom of the tubs on the outside, just seems kinda lazy to not trim them up.

Thanks guys! Should have some updates tonight!
No problem, been asked that a couple times. I guess they look more 'finished' in person. I left them like that because I plan on putting an oil cooler on the pass. side at some point and wanted to use that as sort of a debris guard from the tires. Hope that makes sense lol.

First of all, that filler piece could have easily been made with your "ghetto-break" lol. You could have Z-bent it but at an angle to account for the taper that it makes from front to back. Would have saved you a bunch of welding, but it doesn't seem to be a skill you lack . Secondly, are you leaving that extra bit of fender? I assume you are since you undercoated it, but just asking. Looks out of place to me, but to each his own. I don't see if being a problem, just seems like an eye-sore for everything else to be such awesomely done. Third, which seam-sealer did you use? Fourth, OMFG, this thing turned out awesome! lol. Great work, man. |

1. There's ALWAYS more than one way to 'skin a cat' lol.
2. Look 2 posts above yours. 3. Just some stuff I got at Autozone, nothing special but it worked good and didn't shrink or crack. 4. Thanks!

Finished up the ps bracket yesterday. Took a while to figure out the right angle the tensioner and pump needed to be to gain tension when pivoted.
Had to do a little adjusting to the radiator to get the fan shroud fit tight. Had too big of a gap for my liking... Had to modify this... And this... Used some insulating foam tape to seal the intercooler and core support to the radiator for maximum flowage... Radiator, fan, shroud and hoses installed... Heat shrink clamps on the upper... and lower hoses... Rad rad brackets I made...

I really like how you seem to like all kinds of cars.
What I like so far is the idea of a motorcycle fender for the tub, also the oem hoses, I am not a fan of the silicone ones, due to them being more prone to leak. Oem hoses are nice, always perfect on fitment. The license plate on the s2k had me laughing so hard. what the fuck is torque? wtfistq also, you know about using a nissan quest altinator right? One question about those clamps, say you need to take it off how do you do it? they are one time use right? |
