I have come across a couple threads online stating that a narrowband gauge (autometer, etc) will work will a fatty 02 sensor (better readings) if you have an e5 ecu. Now I was wondering if this is true then could I do this:

Instead of the e5 ecu, install the fatty 02 into the downpipe (keeping original skinny 02's for the 62 ecu), give it a 12 volt signal, ground it, and connect the signal wire to the gauge (keeping the system out of the actual ecu). Would this essentially give me better 02 readings than having it on the skinny 02? Gauge came with car so I didn't waste my money on it.

Yes I know a wideband hands down I just don't have 200 saved up for an innovate or AEM wideband controller yet. I do have a fat bosch 02 sensor from a starion that is still having the engine built, and I have a whole day of nothing planned tomorrow so i could install it if it would work. Any thoughts?. I just want to know if this idea would work UNTIL I can get a wideband kit.

Anything after this is going to be stupid because you were mislead. An e5 ecu uses the fatty 02 sensor period, there is no better just different ways the sensor reads vs skinny.

NO it's a narrow band sensor. get rid of the gauge, get the proper oxygen sensor for the ecu. If you want to monitor afr's get a wide band 02 sensor.

NO don't waste your time, it will be the same as any narrow band 02 connected to the gauge, via the ecu or not! aka blinkkitty blinkitty lights!
It's your car though, do what you want, but you've got to know when you're doing idiotic shit!

That's all I wanted to know was if I had read those correctly. It was just a question about a theory in my head. Yes I do want to monitor afrs, yes ill just have to get a wideband. I just was confused as why those threads stated a fat 02 sensor would read almost like a wideband on a narrowband gauge as the skinny work in ohms and the fat work in volts. Sounds like it was a bunch of bullshit and lies in those threads now. Like I said I didn't waste the money on it. It was already rigged up with the car. I've been waiting to get an actual wideband controller. Just a simple question cause it would of cost me $.00 to of done it and if had given me a little better readings than what it was now i would have been all over it. Thanks for your reply

Yes I do know narrowband would never truly give me the readings of a wideband. Thank you
