I've searched but I haven't really quite found the answer I'm looking for.

I basically want to know which is better to DD with, 2way or 1.5?
-less tire wear?
-less oil management?

I know that 2way performs better for drifting, but I drift every here and there. And I know that 1.5 will do the job just fine.

You pretty much answered your own questions. haha. Open diff is best for daily, but shitty for performance.

2 way is great for drift and daily, but is really noisy. 1.5 sounds like it suites you best.

Any clutch diff youll have to change the oil more often than others, it doesnt really matter if its 1.5way or 2way.

The noise goes away after proper break-in and about 5k miles. Using the correct fluid also helps a lot.

2way is full lock on accel and decel
1.5way is full lock on accel and partial lock on decel
I got a carbonetic for quite operation and i am more of a road race guy,but any diff does recommend often fluid changes.

if you drift pretty rarely, then i will assume you lifting means you want to exit a drift before a spinout or you hit something.
a 2 way wont let you out of a drift as fast as a 1.5

I have a nice tomei trax advance diff, it's a 2-way and extremely aggresive. It's set to full lock and it was DD as well as tracked. I mean if your creating a great drift car build to compete with, i would go 2-way, otherwise just simply do 1.5 way. You won't really need much more if your not going to go crazy with it and compete and such.

But if you do decide to go with a 2-way, PM me and I'll give you a good price on the Tomei.

the open diff. is a really good daily driver. i use to run that until people kept telling me about bumps...
as of right now, I am currently running on a welded diff.
but correct me if i am wrong, but i have heard some of my friends who drive with a open diff. and it is lowered and some slammed and pretty stiff, and they sometimes get stuck on driveways, bumps, etc. where they had to get some help to push their car. This they say is due to the open diff. having only one tire spin.
has that happen to you guys yet?

With subframe spacers, and solid motor/tranny mounts you can't even tell my car has a diff. If you can't dd a car because the diff makes a little noise then don't drive a modded car, get a Cadillac.

2 way, you might as well do a welded diff
2 way clunks like a motherfucker around turns my buddy had a kaaz 2 way and its pretty loud around turns.

Yes, this has happened to me a few times. One scenario is I was dropping off my girl to work and as I pull to the drive way slowly cuz my car is pretty low but not as slammed as most on here, the wheel that had traction was up in the air so I got stuck and couldn't reverse or go forward. I had to get out the car and push it.

Lifting on a 2way is just about the same as yanking the handbrake.

and to the guy somewhere above in this thread,
yes, open diffs can get stuck when a car has coils and tries to angle up a drive.
BTW, i ran a VLSD for a year.
Hooks as the drag guys say.
Good take off speed.
Drifts pretty good and will let you out when you lift.
doesnt chatter on corners.
will let you maintain corner grip during autocross.
i would rather have a 1.5 2way, but if the economy gets you,
VLSD is great for daily.

I have a OS Giken 1.5way as well. It is by far the best diff I've experienced ever! It virtually makes no noise and is like driving around on an open diff until you either clutch kick it or mat the gas. My car feels extremely stable in wet weather, I feel like I can grip drive it easier, but I drift my car and it is wonderful with that too.

depends on the situation and your car setup
i think 'pulling out of a drift' is easy but ive been driving for some time. im no expert but it depends on whats going on and how fast your going, angle, etc etc

after having a kaaz 2 way i switched to a carbonetics 1.5 and i much prefer the 1.5 way.
the lockup is less aggressive and i feel it allows me to have a smoother style when drifting. the carbonetics one also clunks less than the kaaz one did and the life of the clutch plates is longer than the kaaz unit also.

i would recommend 1.5 way unless its a track only car. just my .02

I've only run welded and 2way, so I can't comment on the 1.5, but from what it seems like, all the "pro" drifters run 1.5 like the Falken cars and what not. So I'll probably end up trying it out to see what all the hype is.

I have a nismo 2 way... really agressive and clunks like crazy around sharp corners when i'm going slow.. but it locks up super fucking hard when i want it to. I don't really care about the noise... just like my osgiken clutch.. super noisey but you learn to appreciate the sounds of a car like this as you always know what's going on.

im running a nismo 1.5 and its way better than a vlsd and open for the street. not as noisy as a welded when i had one but you do feel it lock on acceleration. stick to 1.5 or vlsd for the street and some track.

i personally run a kaaz 2way, it clunked, it locks hard, does it's job i suppose. never used a 1.5 way, so i can't compare them, but i'm not dissapointed with a 2way in any way.
