sr20 bottom end piston size reliability vs power

just about to build a stronger bottom end....

will 90mm piston set be 100% reliable like a 87, or 87.5mm tomei piston set?
sleeved with darton sleeves ofcourse, but just wondering will it lose topend if i go 90mm!???

any experiance with builds like this let me know!

You lose top end when you stroke not bore. Typically Bore is HP and Stroke is TQ.

Don't have to worry about bore till you get past 115mm. Then flame front/complete combustion becomes an issue.

Just thought I would post this page up for you if you haven't seen it already:
Sleeved Street Short Block

I kinda wish I saw it before I did mine. I could have prob saved a little money, just buying one pre-done.

I was just nosing around at Mazworx and they have done several 90mm motors already. The big problem with 90mm pistons and SR was the headgasket, and that issue has been resolved with the Mazworx/Power Enterprise head gasket.

You don't lose top end per say

What you are losing is the level of saftey and stress on the moving parts of the engine due to velocity of the piston.

You can rev a stroked SR20DET to 8k rpms saftely and according to your camshaft selection, turbo and EMS tuning it will make more power everywhere, even up top, but reliability at higher RPMs will be greatly reduced (the higher you go) again very subjective to materials build quality and your steady hand.

A bored motor will grant you more HP (torque/rpm is HP), and slightly more torque because of displacement.

A stroked motor will grant you more torque and because HP again is torque/rpm more power. Your gains will be more in the torque potion of the power band. Torque is essential to output and is symbiotic to HP, but it's not the be all end all.

Because the SR20det is already square (bore and stroke are equivelant in stock form) I would suggest thinking about what kind of car you want this to be. For drifting/road racing/drag racing more torque may or may not fit the application.

If what you are looking for is a high reving motor with more overall output potential, breathing in those higher rpms and output, A sleeve kit is the way to go.

IMO it depends on your driving style and preferences.

Personally I will be picking up a stroker kit and trying a 2.25 liter SR20DET out next year, while retaining my single scroll 3076R on my personal experiment platform car. (ole ugly)

I should have been more clear as that he would loose top end RPM as the piston velocity would get out of control faster. I see how it can be misconstrued as loosing top end HP.
