Hacking keyless entry
Last Sunday I realized someone broke into my BMW 335i overnight and went through the center console and glove box. There were no signs of forced entry. It was as if I had left my car unlocked, but it would be very unusual for me to forget to lock my car. Luckily they didn't take anything (nothing really to take), only left some paperwork spread across the seat.
I later found out that several cars on my block were broken into, all without force. They were all nice cars with keyless entry and alarms - an Escalade, Mercedes SUV, etc. Everyone's cars were parked in their driveways, so we would have heard if any alarms had triggered. The criminal(s) siphoned gas out of a couple cars, and stole registration and service records from one. Has anyone heard of a device that would allow criminals to spoof electronic key signals? Maybe I'm naive, but that seems pretty sophisticated for what I'm assuming are kids breaking into cars looking for electronics. And if there is some device like this, wouldn't they be able to start the car with it as well? |

Personally I don't see why not...there are devices that get credit card info like that and a keyless transponder signals further...im going to park more in my garage...that's no fun thinking its that easy...

Yes their are such devices, some require to intercept the transmission from your keyfob...they store it and are able to duplicate it. Others are similar to jammers, they just generate random signatures until they arrive at the right one.

There was a thing on the news a couple weeks ago. They stick a recorder under your car, get the signal, they retrieve the device, then come back

They can steal the car too, this one had their window smashed, but they can access using the comfort access. Then they plug into the OBD and write up a new key. As a n54 owner sorry man i hate knowing when someones been in my shit. |

Reminds me of the scene out of Gone In 60 Seconds. If that technology was plausible then even for movies sake (just the idea of it that is), someone has certainly made it since then and it's likely very effective. Whether it's accessible or even affordable to kids presumably, and that's all relative, who knows but I wouldn't be surprised.
Sorry to hear your troubles.
