Has anyone retrofit projectors in S13 bricks yet?

I have a few sets of S13 headlights sitting around, and have not decided just which set (bricks or dual projectors) I want to use yet. I've been toying around with the idea of taking apart the dual projector housings and retrofitting some nice bi-xenon projectors in the low beam section to get some actual useful light out of them, but I'm also toying around with the idea of retrofitting some projectors in the low beam section of the bricks. I'm more about function them I am form, but that doesn't mean I want something that looks like it was hacked together.

Any input would help

JT

If you like projectors, sell the bricks since they go for big money and get some good projectors for your duals. I have duals on mine but I didnt open them up to do any retrofitting.

I've already sold 2 pair of my bricks and 1 set of triples. Money isn't really an issue, proper lighting is. From what I've seen, all three choices of Silvia lights are inadequate. retrofitting the dual projectors would be the easiest to retrofit and I'd get the extra fog light option too, but I'm also thinking the retrofitted bricks might look good too in a S14 Kouki kinda way. Since I've never seen it attempted (google search brought no results) I'm a little reluctant to hack up a set of bricks.

Old cars have older lighting technology. Do a front end conversion to S15?

As right as you are, this doesn't answer my question

Even if I were to scrap my whole front end project, and start over with a completely new front end, I'd still be in the same position of the lighting on the S15 headlights will not be adequate to my standard. the light pattern will still shine as if it were made for a RHD vehicle. I'm building this car in North America where we drive LHD so what your suggesting would mean selling off all my S13 parts, and buying S15 parts to be in the same place I was in the beginning when a simple retrofit of some bi-xenon's or even some Raybrig LED projectors would solve my problem.

If anyone has pics of this conversion please post them, otherwise I'll most likely have to start cutting up a couple sets of bricks until I get it right.

There's "beam correcting brackets" available for the S13 Silvia projectors if you weren't aware.

This guy here changed the projectors and corrected the beam pattern for LHD

Both my cars are RHD and I daily drive them, winter and summer, in north america. They've been working for me great and they're both stock lighting systems. Nobody seems to even care that the cutoff is to the right instead of the left. The light output works great for me, even on pitch black nights. I just make sure my lenses are not faded or dull and that i wash them often at gas stations. That way the light shines through nice and clear.

I picked up a copy of Video Option last month in Japan and it came with a great DVD where some kid hacked up an El Grande projector and fit it in his S14a housings. It looked like it took him 2 days, and this was for the magazine! He had to hot knife though plastic housings and do all sorts of nasty stuff, but in the end it looked kinda ok. You could still tell someone super glued all that together and I'm not quite sure how he got the aiming right. My Japanese is not that excellent.

Good luck with your projector conversion! Seriously, I'm not being an ass. I'm kinda curious if you do found out a good way to convert those bricks

I have not seen this before, I'll give it a look and see how it works.

Thanks man, no offense taken. Unlike most, I don't read forum posts with perceived sarcasm. I've played around with retrofits before on my IS300 and my R6, I just wanted to see if its already been done to gather ideas before diving into it and destroying a couple sets of headlights before getting it right. I have 3 extra sets of triples I might start hacking up to see how the dismantling goes before attempting it on a set of bricks.

here is a shot of my IS300 conversion, as you can see, I don't mess around.
and by the way, if you want to scan a copy of that option mag, I can translate it for you.
