YOUR suspension setup to Prevent UNDERSTEER

my s13 coupe understeers like a mofo... just wonder what your suspension set up is (coilover, tire pressure, chasis reinforcement, etc) that prevents understeer and produce more oversteer.

current set up

front tires 35psi
back tires 40psi
eibach prokit spring
tokico blue shocks
suspension tech sways

ebay front and rear strut bars

john...

Tein HEs
No FSTB
Cusco Type OS RSTB
JDM Hicas Rear sway (doesn't seem that large)
PSI at 36 all around(street/daily)

NOTE: as stated earlier with a 2-way on initial throttle when cornering you will push. you need to break the limit of adhesion to drift, unless you clutch kick, e-brake, feint, etc.... or other ways to break the rear out. simple cornering to make the rear come out isn't going to happen.

Here is a good link that tells you what to change to get more understeer, or oversteer.

http://www.autornd.com/Merchant2/mer...SUSPENSIONTUNE

I run---->
Tein HE-(-1.0* to -3.0* camber front)
SPL-front tension rods (8.5*to 9.0* caster)
SPL-RUCA (0.0*to -0.50*)
Nismo-front under brace
C-Tune-front and rear strut tower bars
P2M subframe spacers
32psi to 35psi for the tires, sometimes I will run like 40psi in the rear for smoke.
I like a slite toe in on the rear, and slite toe out up front.
Oh and run good tires up front.

I set my dampening in the rear slightly stiffer than the front.

I'd say the most improvements can be made in the way you brake. For instance, in a series of corners that are all in the same gear, I'll use left foot trail braking with quick transition throttle. If it's a turn that requires hard braking and downshifting, I'll make sure to brake earlier and smoothely and ride the brakes into the turn for some trail braking grip.

Easiest you can do right now is probably loosing the rear pressure.
If the rear is lower than front, you will get rid of some understeer.

I am so sorry I was just speaking from personal experience.

EDIT: Actually I searched on google and my comment seemed to be right.

http://www.ffcobra.com/FAQ/handling101.html

http://www.autornd.com/Merchant2/mer...SUSPENSIONTUNE

It is even stated in the link provided by zootang above.
Now, don't you think your response was a little too harsh?
Even if I was wrong, you did not need to be so rude and ignorant.
You could've just corrected me in that case.
I won't do the same thing you did to me so there, you know it now.

i did the opposite instead.
(i thought that lowering the front tire psi would give more grip in the front= more oversteer... )

Air pressure vs. Grip is like a bell curve.

Too little pressure and you lose grip, too much pressure and you also lose grip.

true dat

for fsae we set a few days aside for tire pressure testing alone with our sensor/aquisition system to get a decent curve for diff temps.

Tanabe sustec pro type II's (run 4 8, sometimes autoxing i run 3 6 to compensate for tight turns)
ST sway bars
KTS hard toe, traction, rear upper pro arms
KTS hard t/c rods, nismo power brace
Kazama subframe collars
3 point strut bars
Project MU dura camber plate, tanabe pillow ball on the rear
-1.5 degrees camber front and rear
42 psi in all four falken azenis
oem vlsd

understeer is pretty much eleminated. I do get a slide when i got into a hard turn too fast most of the time i can compensate. For the most part its all grip.

yo John. I used to understeer a lot until I got none stagger or close to none stagger tire setup.

Also there are a few tricks that you can do to really understeer without sacrifice front stiffness.

1. Load up the front with negative camber. I am talking about -2.5 or more degree.

2. Get really grippy tires in the front. I am running Falken azenis sport in the front and some cheap 711 in the rear. (Really be careful in the rain with that tire in the front)

3. Get coilovers and set the front to soft and rear to hard. I usually like to have rear on the stiffest to start the event and slowly soften it up as the tire wears out on the rear to balance the traction.

I run front and rear sway, front and rear strut. Really you don't have to take the front sway away. Don't listen to the other BS. Keep ur front stiff and just make the rear stiffer or give front more traction.

My suspension setup
Silkroad RM8 coilover
Silkroad rear toe adjuster
Silkroad rear upper control arms
Front Cusco tension rods
Front and rear ST sway bars
Front cusco CF strut bar
Rear OS strut bar

Next for me is front tie rods and tie ends upgrade.
And I would probably stick with this setup for until I get more engine work done.
By sometime summer of next year. I am gonna have Rollbar or Cage, fender brace, and possibily seam/sport weld the rear.

For drifting you want the car to push when it's not sliding, makes it harder to spin.

Yeah I'm a jackass...cause I only have 400 posts. Fuck you.

All I need is someone to host and I'll post vids of LAST years drifting with a KA and my "newb" drifting.
