s14 zenki suspension question
ok, you all may think this is a stupid question but this has been bugging me and nothing online has been giving me straight answers.I think my suspension is on backwards since the front is way to high. The front has the bigger spring and the rear has the smaller spring. Does this sound right to you guys or is my suspension really backwards? If its backwards tell me so i can get it fixed because i really think it is if the bigger spring is suppose to be in the rear. Let me know asap so i can get this fixed.

No man, that's how it's supposed to be. You might want to look up pictures of 240SX supension before you post threads like this.

I did google s14 suspension. Didnt give me a schematic of which is which. It DID however show me the stock suspension, just didnt say which is rear which is front. I know coilovers have the exact springs. Thats why i asked the question. Are ya guys sure? My buddy bought a zenki with stock suspension and the fat suspension is in the back and the small is in the front and the front and rear gaps are exactly the same. Im just sayin i think its strange that alot of the s14s i see around me that are completely stock have the exact gaps and mine has the 4x4 front end.

Coilovers I just got, the ones on the right are for the front.. the ones on the left are for the back. Do you know why they couldn't be bolted on backwards now?
If you have coilovers they are almost all exactly the same shape, if not all of them lol. What you should do is adjust the coilovers height in the front.. |

I dont know. Im having a shop install lowering springs on them so hopefully that will get rid of the 4x4 look. Dont be hate'n on lowering springs on stock suspension, this is temporary.

If so, you would realize that the larger diameter front spring would slide right off the rear shock if it was ever to be installed in the rear. The lower spring perch is the same diameter as the rear spring, the front spring wouldn't begin to sit on it if it was back there. A simple look at both parts would have told you that. You didn't mention it, but I'm betting your car was an automatic at one time. Or, someone put auto front suspension on your car. The automatic front springs have a higher rate to handle the added weight of the automatic transmission, therefore the front end does sit a little higher when fitted to a manual equipped car. But we all knew this in 1989 when the first person swapped his auto to a manual.

no i dont sound retarded at all because, my buddy has a 98 and his stock suspension doesnt look at all like mine. His front is the thinner looking shocks and the back are the fatter ones and his sits lower than mine.Maybe the previous owner did something like the one person on here said. Once was automatic and now manual and the suspension is the same. The car infact was automatic before i bought it,Its been manual ever since. I still think either mine are blown or stretched since I came across a bone stock s14 today and had the suspension setup just like mine and it doesnt have the 4x4 look. It looks normal.
This isnt my friends car, but this is what i mean how low his car is on his stock suspension: http://slidegood.com/media/content/i...als/96-s14.png This is how mine sits on the same exact suspension See the difference. His isnt cut btw, its all stock suspension. I took the car to a shop and they said the front were stretched somehow. |

Just post pics of your suspension and we'll tell you 100% whats going on. And out of curiousity i would love to see your friends fat springed rear suspension cause all the s14 and s13s ive ever seen have had exact same suspension front and rear only differing in length and diameter, being front thicker and rear longer thinner and on s14s its even longer.

Just take off your front and rear wheel on one side so we can see the front and rear suspension. |

Its fine and normal. The problem is in your perspective. If you measure from the pinch weld just under the side of the car to the ground front and back you would find it to be even. Auto manufactures dont make the wheel arches the same because in most cases only the front steers so if your wheel is turned and you hit a hard bump you have less likelyhood of rubbing on your fender. This being said your ride height is correct just very high. If you want to lower your car properly dont go off of the wheel well. If you want it to "look" good go with the wheel well.

Your asking a silly question. The front end of cars are ALWAYS higher slightly in the front then the rear. If you want your suspension to be lower in the front.. then the back for some reason.. buy lowering springs.. or cut your springs in the front?
Or better yet, get what every poor S-Chassis needs.. some coilovers. |
