After gt42r turbo installed i start thinking about air filter restriction and here we go

Ideally this is done on an engine where the flow-rate is known (estimated). Your test gives no flow-rate data.

Additionally, your test gives no insight as to how effective a given air filter is at filtering air. To this end a ppm device should be used. Otherwise how would we be able to select the best filter with the lowest restriction?

Furthermore, on a proper PCV setup the air filter does pose some restriction in order to create a pressure drop before the turbo, thereby allowing crankcase evacuation to function during WOT.

If you are concerned about a restriction pre-turbo on a particular engine, you would install a gauge like this,

pre-turbo and watch it for pressure drop. Some, as I mentioned, is fine/normal. You could then adjust filter quality/size and search for the least pressure drop (smallest vacuum signal) if that was your goal. None of this will actually tell you how good your filter is though. I feel that a paper filter is ideal, one large custom box filled with enormous paper OEM style filter will protect an engine best.

I have gauge installed on intake (vakuum gauge). On gt35 hks work pretty well, but gt42 is not well enough. Test performed at 800cfm air flow approx. so 500-600bhp sr20. Filtration pretty good, cant and dont want give a proof but im sure it same or better than hks one. I use thos filter race events only. blue "foam" used in heavy duty hvac systems, 2nd layer -- filtration element from paint box air filter. Just my 5 cent how to solve air filter problem on race events (mesh is not an option for many reasons) without use giant kn filter. As mentioned before this filter shows no restriction in real dyno session 600whp on sr20.
