the bolts that hold up the muffler bracket to the chassis, does anybody have any extras they dont need? or by a chance know the size of the bolt and threading, width, etc, all the info i would need to stop by like home depot or something? Cause i know they arent any special kind of bolt like valve cover bolts. I ended up losing them when i unbolted my exuast system to check my CAT (long story). I dont really want to drive like 30 min to a junkyard if i can get something that will fit from home depot. I told the guy at nissan it was a 10mm bolt head, and he said its probably a 6mm bolt? i dunno what that means?

what do you mean by muffler bracket? you mean the bracket that attaches to the front of the car and the transmission crossmember? a bolt is measured by its shank ( the actual threaded portion of the bolt), length, thread pitch, and hardness. i think most of the small bolts on the 240sx are 1.25 threads/mm thread pitch. so if you go to you're autoparts store and ask for a 6mm by 30mm (just guestimating) by 1.25 bolt they should be able to help. hardness shouldnt matter.

They are ordinary 10mm bolts. The same 10mm bolts that bolt down your radiator bracket, horns, fenders, overflow canister all ther emmisions crap, everything. They are eveywhere in my garage, I step on those damn things all the time when walking bare foot.

that's incorrect, they are 6mm bolts. like i said they are measured by the shank, not the head.

Are you talking about the bracket with 2 10mm bolts that hold up the rear muffler?

I just checked my car. They are 12's. I was wrong about the 10's, but where are you getting 6mm bolts from. The smallest bolt on a 240 is a 8mm.

what im saying is that you dont measure bolt size from the head, thats not the parameter you use when you replace a bolt. instead what you use is the diameter of the shank (or the threaded portion of the bolt)

That’s if you go to home depot. All the 240’s 12’s are 12’s. all the 10’s are 10’s other then the screw type 10(heads) that hold down the radio or the four rubber shifter ring bolts, etc. All the 12’s share the same shank, and thread pattern. The 10’s are diff since you will find a lot of the 10’s for the interior a different shank and thread from the rest of the car.

well im using the 2 front reinforcement bolts for my center section of the drive shaft since the last 2 was stripped..... bolts on there before was a 17mm bolts now is a 14mm... same diameter bolt and thread pitch diff' size top.... hmmm

yeah the 2 bolts that hold up the rear muffler. So i guess its a 10mm head, but the bolt itself is 6mm with a 1.25 pitch?
