Anyone know a place to get my A/C recharged? One place quoted me $140, is that about what it costs everywhere, or does anyone know cheaper places?
That's about the right price. Gonna be the same anywhere. I got mine recharged at Acutech.

I got this ad here, for an A/C Performance check it's $30, from MasterCareUSA.com. But then if you already had a prob, they'd probably tell you $140 bucks to fix, plus that $30 for the inspection. LOL, so I guess that doesn't help.

i dont need an inspection, i'm fairly certain i'm just low on freon, which isn't something thats disposed of easily or messed with...i think its a gaseous substance too

Dood, if ur sure u dont have a leak and all u need is a recharge, just go to kragens and get the charge kits. I used it on my 97 4 yrs ago when i had AC and it worked. All you have to do is connect it to the low pressure side of the compressor.

Just make sure you get a decent charge kit line with a gauge on it, dont over pressurise it. The difference was day and nite after i recharged it with those kit.

cool, which brand did you use? Our cars are the R12 stuff, not the newer R13 stuff, right/

hahaha wtf R13??? no ur car does not use R12 only the older car pre '95 i beleive uses that.... ur car uses R134a freon.... if u don't feel comfortable doing it urself i can do it right for u for a small fee plus the cost of freon....

I don't think you can bu y freon over the counter anymore.

i wasn't sure what the cut off from r12 to r134 was, but i then checked the FSM and saw the correct chemical.
Of course, it's all moot. I have a busted hose connector that needs to be replaced.

I'm pretty sure the cutoff was 93 - so my understanding is:
-93 = R12
94+ = R134a
go to kragens or autozone - you can get the bottle + valve for around $40 max

Well, I just had my low pressure/suction hose replaced and the whole system recharged at a shop. Part cost me $112, work $200. Shit.
Anyone need the upperhalf of the low pressure hose? I only needed the lower section

I bet its the low pressure line that connects to the compressor. Ive known like 3 S14 guys who broke that shiet *including me* I bought the part from nissan *$180 iirc* bought 3 of those recharge kit and it worked for me. This was in NJ so i wasnt sure if cali sells em still. But i coulda sworn ive seen those same kits at kragens.

anyone know why those things break?? seems like a common problem. is it due to harsh roads and stiff suspension?

FYI R12 is ozone depleting, thats why it was taken off the market. R134 will work, but if your freon leaked out any leaks are essentially going to be bigger ones with 134 because the molecules are smaller. They do make this stuff that you can pump through the AC system which is UV sensitive, so you run the car for a couple minutes then use a blacklight to find where the leak is coming from. then you replace that part.

just a matter of circumstances...you didn't post in time, therefore he didn't go to you...lol
i mean everyone who can't do a certain task is bound to get ripped off in some ways. he paid for labor too, remember, it's like $80-90 per hour.
and jon, did you even save the pressure gauge? because buying r-134a alone is only a few bucks (like $5-10). it's the gauge that was expensive.

is all of that really necessary to do a recharge?
I tried the r134 refill only and it seems like the a/c only wants to work when I'm not at idle :(
wtf is up with that?
Is it because I didn't get all of that junk in that ebay auction?
