Hey all,

I own a 1997 240SX with a Notchtop SR20DET & CD009

I'm experiencing what sounds like flywheel chatter noise upon

-Decel, specifically letting off the throttle, in gear, RPM drops.

-5/6 gear low RPM 1800-2500rpm

-Any downshift.

Parts list

Drive Shaft Shop Drive shaft ( confirmed good, balanced, Etc, bought new )
ACT 6 puck clutch ( confirmed good, bought new )
Fidanza Light weight flywheel ( bought new, )
Autotech adaptor plate.

anyone here have any input to decrease the noise?

Note

I was thinking about buying a OEM Flywheel, balancing it and installing it!

There will always be increased noise with lightweight flywheels and clutches. This is because you're changing the harmonics of your drivetrain, and different things resonate at different frequencies. A heavy flywheel might help, but it might not. If you really hate it, buy some sound insulation, hah.

Also, make sure your flywheel is tight.

haha!

I don't think there is any amount of sound insulation that can block out that rattle.

I read alot of the threads about SR+CD009, and I noticed one thing in common, everyone was using a flyweight, or custom flywheel.

perhaps OEM is worth a shot?

I also noticed the S15 has a dual mass flywheel, what if I installed that?

I have a comp clutch setup (flywheel, clutch disc and pressure plate) its loud, it chatters. I just got use to it. The few folks around me with CD swaps make the same noises.

to my understanding some swaps also use the SR20 flywherl like the autotech one

-btw im using the autotech one-

is it possible to ask your friends if anyone has tried a stock oem sr20 flywheel or maybe even a s15 flywheel & clutch combo

IIRC we both are running Mavrick kits with Sr20 solid flywheels. His is a sprung 6 puck and i have a unspung 6 puck.

damn I thought it was related more too my flywheel bring a fidanza flywheel,

but if youre both using stock flywheels then my theory is wrong...

I was told that it had to do with us not using a dual mass flywheel, since VQs have that factory. Not sure if that true or not.

You will destroy a dual mass flywheel much quicker than a single-piece flywheel. Not recommended for aggressive clutches or driving. Google "dual mass flywheel failure".

A heavier flywheel is a better harmonic damper. It may help switching to a stocker.

Z trans are just really noisy. Hell you can hear it in a Z even. Let alone in an s13 with less to no sound absorption material.
