Sr20+cd009 loud chatter
Hey all,
I own a 1997 240SX with a Notchtop SR20DET & CD009 I'm experiencing what sounds like flywheel chatter noise upon -Decel, specifically letting off the throttle, in gear, RPM drops. -5/6 gear low RPM 1800-2500rpm -Any downshift. Parts list Drive Shaft Shop Drive shaft ( confirmed good, balanced, Etc, bought new ) ACT 6 puck clutch ( confirmed good, bought new ) Fidanza Light weight flywheel ( bought new, ) Autotech adaptor plate. anyone here have any input to decrease the noise? |

There will always be increased noise with lightweight flywheels and clutches. This is because you're changing the harmonics of your drivetrain, and different things resonate at different frequencies. A heavy flywheel might help, but it might not. If you really hate it, buy some sound insulation, hah.
Also, make sure your flywheel is tight.

haha!
I don't think there is any amount of sound insulation that can block out that rattle. I read alot of the threads about SR+CD009, and I noticed one thing in common, everyone was using a flyweight, or custom flywheel. perhaps OEM is worth a shot? I also noticed the S15 has a dual mass flywheel, what if I installed that? |

IIRC we both are running Mavrick kits with Sr20 solid flywheels. His is a sprung 6 puck and i have a unspung 6 puck.

I was told that it had to do with us not using a dual mass flywheel, since VQs have that factory. Not sure if that true or not.

You will destroy a dual mass flywheel much quicker than a single-piece flywheel. Not recommended for aggressive clutches or driving. Google "dual mass flywheel failure".
A heavier flywheel is a better harmonic damper. It may help switching to a stocker.
