s13 coupe towing capacity

Does anybody know the towing capacity of a s13 coupe. I would like to have the towing capacity to tow 2200lbs -2500 max. I am not really to concerned with the drivetrain more or less the chassis, front and rear subframes. Also is there any hitch setups more partial for this type of job for a 240sx.

I'd be shocked if it was more than 1000 lbs. towing 2500 lbs in a 2500 lb car sounds like a terrible idea. Typically the limits are more for the health of the brakes and transmission.

The car is getting a built small block 355 swapped in the future. Aluminum heads, 10.2 compression, hooker headers etc. The transmission is a th400 with a trans cooler to help with heat . I will stick to the 1500lb-2000 limit because of the body and frame. I have considered seam welding and a roll cage for added structural strength, but that will be a few years down the road. I also was curious about the diff heat and sub frame points/ suspension. The whole idea came from living in Europe for 2 years and seeing small cars pull dual horse trailers etc..

brakes are still the weakest link, not motor or subframe or whatever.

Stopping a 2xxxlbs trailer with stock brakes is a scary thought.

Have towed one 240 with another 240 in the distant past. Definitely would NOT do again. White knuckle affair the whole time.

I managed to find a tow hitch that is rated for 1500lbs for a s13 coupe and hatch. I know most class 1 hitches are rated up to 2000 lbs. From my understanding the 240sx falls into the class 1 towing category. I was reading that you should not tow more than 75 percent of a vehicles weight max safely. Which would be around 1960lbs give or take. I would need a weight equaliser for it as well which would transfer the weight evenly but all in all I think it's doable. I plan on upgrading the brakes but am at a stand still because the wheels I have are the 15"s that came on the car when I got it off the forums and I do not want to swap them out for bigger brakes. Call me crazy but I like the uniqueness of a 4 lug setup as well. The way I see it is a 4 lug setup with arp wheel studs should be as strong as a 5 lug setup.

i kid, i kid. But really with the money to invest into the 240 to be able to tow...you could buy a subaru outback, a chevy 1500(90-98), a f150, etc......

even if you could tow 2000lbs good luck coming to a stop. Seriously if your going to tow something and dont have a truck why not rent a uhaul...there is no need to endanger others on the road cause you want to half ass something.
