so i blew the hg, stock, unmolested ka,
used the fsm, ive got spark, i can smell the fuel, not sure where to go from here, some of the vacuum lines got mess up, but im not getting anything, no popping, sputtering, nothing. it just cranks and cranks. any ideas?

what have you done to diagnose the problem? compression, ignition timing, cam timing, etc.

initially, i checked for spark, checked that the dizzy wasnt 180deg off, made sure all of my plugs were connected, grounds, fuel pressure.
i know it has compression, i cranked it by hand to get to tdc, i know it has fuel and i know it has spark, so im guessing its an air issue

thanks for the help guys...
update, did more diagnosing, and still nothing. i dont get it.

How do you know it has compression? Only way to find out is do a comp test. I would start there. Sure the cams were put back on in the correct order etc? Ive bent some valves once by not paying attention, was a very expensive lesson. Lol.

i will do a comp test today. update in about 8 hours after work.

comp is between 145 and 155 across the board...

Assuming you did it all correctly i think those numbers are good for a ka.

I would say its timing or dizzy related. I know this might sound like a dumb question but are the wires in the correct locations? 1, 3, 2, 4 firing order?

Also make sure the fuel lines aren't switched. Very easy to do.

Yep, make sure you have the fuel lines hooked up right. Fuel filter to rail, regulator to the return line.
If thats correct then your timing is probably off somewhere.

The fuel lines are correct, and so are the plugs. I re did the vacuume lines and it almost wanted to start popped like twice and now we are back to nothing, I removed the vc to make sure I didn't switch the cams, they are correct, visually checked the tdcc and the dizzy, still have spark, still have fuel, will not start. My buddy wants to re do the top end timing, and I reallly don't want to, any ideas before we tear it back apart?

FAST
Fuel: make sure you have pressure at the rail, and use a noid light to make sure the injectors are firing
Air: No leaks between the maf and throttle body? All vacuum lines solid now?
Spark: Sounds like you've got good spark
Timing: With the valve cover off, make sure the cams are timed to the crank properly.

i do not own a niod light set, air is all set, and how do i check the timing to make sure its correct without removing the lower timing chain cover?

set the crank pulley to top dead center, then make sure the timing marks on the cam gears match up.

Yeah if you dont know how to do that, im willing to bet your timing is not set correctly. Get a light too just to make sure its all dead on if you get it fired up.

i thought they only line up like every 1000 revolutions or something like that

Lmao. Id say make sure you put that engine back together properly.

dude, fuck you.
first off this is the first ka ive ever done, ive read countless threads on this shit and they all mention that, followed the FSM to the letter, i had a friend who has (successfully) rebuilt ka's verify that my shit was correct before putting it all back together, im trying to get info to fix the mistake i obviously made, so if your not going to be helpful, fuck off. ive got way too much shit on my plate to deal with whatever is up your ass. :fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd:: fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::f awkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fa wkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::faw kd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawk d::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd ::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd::fawkd:

If the timing is correct it will line up after every full rotation of the engine.

Make sure your distributor isn't a tooth off. If you stab it where it looks like it should be, it'll rotate too far when it actually goes in.
If the timing is correct it will line up after every full rotation of the engine.
Don't you sometimes have to rotate the engine twice to get the cams out? The first lobes should be facing away from each other.

If you cant figure out where the cams and the pulley marks line the fuck up on tdc. How are you going to tell me you put it back together properly? Unless you got really lucky you have to align that shit before the chain goes back on. With such comments you wont get any more help from me and good luck rebuilding.

Ok, I got it to start but my timimg is like two teeth off on the dizzy, it runs super rough, shakes, rich as hell wont rev past 2k, what do you guys think time to redo the upper end timing?

Duh, you timing is off and your lucky if you dont bend valves. Obviously you didnt follow instructions to a tee then.

Yeah your timing is off.
And if someone's trying to help, normally "fuck you" is not a very good response. Dude was just tryin to help, all statements on the internet arent completely serious...
145 to 155 is NOT good compression on a KA....

while that may be the case, i know i made a mistake, (hence why im on here asking for help), insulting my intelligence isn't the way to help.

what is? those were dry/cold numbers. ive seen anything from 140's to 230s depending on variables.

stock. lol
i just got done re aligning the cam timing, everything was off one tooth. idfk how but it was.
used a screwdriver to verify tdc,
aligned the idler and the exhaust cam first,
put the intake cam on, tq'd, chain tensioner,
front cover vc, blah blah, dizzy set at zero, plugs in wires on, popped once, and then just cranked.
pugs are pretty fouled, going to run and get a new set, update when i get back.

02-14-2013, 05:20 PM
well. its still doing the shitty, pop once or twice then crank trick.
now my batt is dead so. back at it tomorrow.
seriously at the end of my fucking rope here guys. i need this shit to run.
