what have you done to diagnose the problem? compression, ignition timing, cam timing, etc.

initially, i checked for spark, checked that the dizzy wasnt 180deg off, made sure all of my plugs were connected, grounds, fuel pressure.

i know it has compression, i cranked it by hand to get to tdc, i know it has fuel and i know it has spark, so im guessing its an air issue

How do you know it has compression? Only way to find out is do a comp test. I would start there. Sure the cams were put back on in the correct order etc? Ive bent some valves once by not paying attention, was a very expensive lesson. Lol.

I would say its timing or dizzy related. I know this might sound like a dumb question but are the wires in the correct locations? 1, 3, 2, 4 firing order?

Also make sure the fuel lines aren't switched. Very easy to do.

Yep, make sure you have the fuel lines hooked up right. Fuel filter to rail, regulator to the return line.

If thats correct then your timing is probably off somewhere.

The fuel lines are correct, and so are the plugs. I re did the vacuume lines and it almost wanted to start popped like twice and now we are back to nothing, I removed the vc to make sure I didn't switch the cams, they are correct, visually checked the tdcc and the dizzy, still have spark, still have fuel, will not start. My buddy wants to re do the top end timing, and I reallly don't want to, any ideas before we tear it back apart?

FAST

Fuel: make sure you have pressure at the rail, and use a noid light to make sure the injectors are firing

Air: No leaks between the maf and throttle body? All vacuum lines solid now?

Spark: Sounds like you've got good spark

Timing: With the valve cover off, make sure the cams are timed to the crank properly.

i do not own a niod light set, air is all set, and how do i check the timing to make sure its correct without removing the lower timing chain cover?

set the crank pulley to top dead center, then make sure the timing marks on the cam gears match up.

Yeah if you dont know how to do that, im willing to bet your timing is not set correctly. Get a light too just to make sure its all dead on if you get it fired up.

If the timing is correct it will line up after every full rotation of the engine.

Make sure your distributor isn't a tooth off. If you stab it where it looks like it should be, it'll rotate too far when it actually goes in.

Don't you sometimes have to rotate the engine twice to get the cams out? The first lobes should be facing away from each other.

If you cant figure out where the cams and the pulley marks line the fuck up on tdc. How are you going to tell me you put it back together properly? Unless you got really lucky you have to align that shit before the chain goes back on. With such comments you wont get any more help from me and good luck rebuilding.
