View Full Version : Sr20det throttle body second fail!!!!

so i keep snapping the butterfly inside the tB so im not to sure if its due to one of the screws coming loose or just something in between the peddle and the bracket on the mani, but its always the left side screw closes to the pulley and it always comes loose and the bar is snapped already when i check it.

If your breaking them your going to continue to break them. Your probably running an aftermarket intake manifold and you need to make a custom bracket that lines the cable up strait with the pully.

I dont know if the stock tb is more sensitive to this but I went to an n15 tb and custom bracket at the same time and havent had issues since

Ya I just made a bracket and make a stopper for the pedal

This is why I just went straight to the Q45 TB on my last build and recommend to most of my customers now as well. Otherwise I would look into the Tomei unit or you could tack weld the bolt/butterfly piece together to make sure they are solid, I have seen that before as well. The key like others will say is to make sure the pulley is not pulling at too awkward of an angle on the arm...

^Steve, Brandon, It's not that entirely. I have broken two of them as well and damaged a motor from a dislodged screw. The bottom line is that the 240sx throttle cable does not have the correct pull length for the SR throttle body pulley diameter. It's not a torsional loading of the hinge its self but rather the fact that the throttle body stop hits before the pedal hits the floor and your foot pressure is stronger than the hinge. What is funny is that a few guys will get in here and start drawing you pictures of how you're adding extra load on the hinge by placing the pulley further out, and that is true, but NOT the reason why it breaks. The standard pulley is located more inboard so it can bottom out and deal with the stress a little better but the problem is your heavy foot not getting a chance to knock against the floor. Look on the second page of the second thread, you'll see the pedal stop I made. Stevecorrado88 hit it right on the head.

Not good guys so I made a new bracket for the cable and a stopper for the pedle and after driving the car for about a month my third tb just broke. I didn't even have the tb open all the way so it would not put stress when it hit the stopper. So does anyone have any more ideas and a tb forsale??? My new plan and I had this on my old car was to us a stock sr cable holder and turn the pulley facing out and it's been working like that for years.

Could I be forcing too much air through the tb and would not running a bov cause too much pressure on the door when it's closed???

^highly unlikely, how much boost are you running? You're going to need to post up some pictures or something. Ever since I made that foot stop, I haven't had an issue. Are you welding the screws on the back side or how have you caught on to these failures and not sucked in a screw?

I have a stock foot stop, and I'm running a 3071r on 21psi.

see that's your problem. That pedal will not hit the foot stop before the pulley hits the stop on the throttle body. Did you not check out my threads?

I just installed the stock stopper lastnight. I had one on there before to where the tb never hit the stopper n it still broke.

are you sure it was rigid enough to stop your foot pressure? I never realized, until I looked at it, but I was able to put enough pressure on the assembly to hit the factory stop, before I installed my spacer. You have to consider the minuet movements of every component when you're stomping down on the pedal. That's why I made my stopped that big, b/c I'm not pushing the pedal lightly when feathering the power in a drift.

I'm gonna put washers under the stock foot stopper to where it doesn't hit the tb stop and I'm gonna try n weld my broken tb cuz I'm using a ka one and I would rather use a sr tb

I doubt that will be reliable; at least on the S14 chassis. The stopper on the floor is a flimsy piece and uses the floor to brace off of. It only has a single self tapping screw in it.
